DescriptionThe whole story▼
Winter does not stop everybody riding. Plenty of R1250R owners keep the boxer roadster on the road through December, setting off in the dark, arriving in the dark and covering short distances on surfaces that are wet, gritted and cold. Accossato lists the AGPA177 front pad in the Sintered (ST) compound for the BMW R1250R of 2019 to 2024. The firm describes a grip level that holds steady at low and at high temperature and that still works when the disc is wet, which is the combination a winter rider is looking for.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the BMW R1250R, model years 2019 to 2024
- AGPA177ST: this pad shape in the Sintered (ST) compound
- Accossato reports constant grip cold, hot and on a wet disc
- Packed as two pads, the quantity one caliper holds
- The R1250R stops on two front calipers, so the axle needs two boxes
- EV1, EV2 and ZXC versions exist on the same shape
- AGPA92 is the rear pad for this bike over the same years
- No German ABE on record; supplied for circuit and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Only the friction material distinguishes the four AGPA177 articles from one another, and this is the sintered one. Accossato's description is unspectacular and easy to check on the road: grip that does not fall off when the pads are cold and does not slip away when they are hot, with water on the disc making little difference. For a bike used on short journeys that counts for more than a headline figure, because a commuter's brakes spend much of their life below the temperature a fast road would give them. Material of this type also gives up its thickness slowly. One box serves one caliper.
December Evenings and Grit on the Road
A winter commute is not hard riding, but it is unforgiving. Salt and grit sit on the road and get thrown against the discs, where they work like a file on whatever material passes over them. Water stands in the ruts, the temperature hovers near freezing, and the first serious stop of the evening often comes at a junction two streets from home, on pads that have had no chance to warm through. Technique helps as much as anything. Cover the lever, start slowing earlier than the traffic seems to require, and use the brakes lightly once or twice on leaving a flooded stretch to clear the discs. A rinse of the front end after a gritted ride keeps the caliper pistons moving freely, and pistons that move freely are what keep a pad wearing evenly.
Fitment and Compatibility
The listing runs from 2019 to 2024 and applies to the R1250R, not to its faired or long-legged relatives, so check the registration document before ordering. There are two calipers up front and a box fills one, which makes two boxes for a complete change, with both sides done at once. Pads are cheap next to a disc, so look at the disc surface while the caliper is off. Accossato also lists the AGPA92 for the rear wheel of the R1250R and the DK006 as its disc, and EV1, EV2 and ZXC are the same shape in other materials.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no test certificate for the AGPA177ST have ever reached us, so we cannot point to a document covering public roads. The pad is sold for circuits and competition.
Scope of Delivery
One box with two AGPA177 pads in the Sintered (ST) compound, the set for one front caliper.
