DescriptionThe whole story▼
A used RSV4 Factory tells you very little about its brakes until you look. These machines have often had several owners, some of whom took them to circuits, and the front pads may well have been swapped in a hurry between sessions. Accossato's AGPA106 covers the front of the Aprilia RSV4 Factory across the model years 2009 to 2011 and again from 2013 to 2016, and the set on this page carries the Sintered (ST) compound, which the company credits with a constant grip level whether the material is cold or hot.
Key Features
- Sintered (ST) front brake pads for the Aprilia RSV4 Factory, 2009 to 2011 and 2013 to 2016
- Accossato names the RSV4 1000 Factory and the RSV4 1000 Factory APRC in its list
- Reference AGPA106; one box is the set for one caliper, and this Aprilia has two at the front
- Accossato: a steady grip level at high and low temperatures, with sound bite on a wet disc
- EV1, EV2 and ceramic racing versions of the same pad are made as well
- Rear pads for the same model years: Accossato AGPA42
- The Accossato disc catalogued for this machine is the DKS032
- No German ABE or test mark on record; racing and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
ST is the compound Accossato recommends where conditions refuse to stay the same, and its claim for it is a grip level that holds from a cold pad to a hot one, with dependable behaviour once the disc is wet. On a first-generation RSV4 Factory that breadth is genuinely useful, because these bikes are used in very different ways: a Sunday route through the hills one week, a circuit day the next, a damp ride to work in between. The broader intentions behind the pad range are a long service life and a friction material that keeps its own temperature in check, which is what leaves the lever consistent when the brake is worked again and again.
Buying, or Reviving, an Older RSV4
Brakes are the part of a used superbike that repays inspection most handsomely. Look through each caliper at the pads and compare the two sides: material that has worn unevenly usually points at a piston which has stopped moving cleanly, and no compound cures that. Turn the wheel and watch the discs; a ridge along the outer edge tells you how much material has already gone. Then study the fluid in the reservoir, because a dark and tired fluid on an otherwise tidy bike says something about the last owner's priorities.
When you come to do the work, take your time over the calipers. Clean the exposed part of every piston before it is pushed back, coax stiff ones out a little at a time, and renew the pads on both sides together so the two calipers stay matched. Bed a new set in with a run of progressive stops on a quiet road, and use the brake gently for the first few applications of the ride that follows before you ask anything ambitious of it. An RSV4 Factory that has been standing for a year deserves that much patience.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato quotes the AGPA106 for the RSV4 1000 Factory from 2009 to 2011 and for the RSV4 1000 Factory APRC from 2013 to 2016, the latter noted with ABS. The 2012 model year does not appear in that list, so we make no claim for it here. Each front caliper takes one box, which makes two for the pair, and the AGPA42 is the matching rear reference across the same years. Should the discs have reached their limit, Accossato lists the DKS032 for this Aprilia.
Road Approval
Neither a German ABE nor a test mark has been made available to us for these pads, so we supply them for racing and competition rather than for road traffic.
Scope of Delivery
One box with two AGPA106 pads in the Sintered compound, the set for a single front caliper.
