DescriptionThe whole story▼
Cross-country racing runs on a clock that nobody stops. A rider who goes down in a rutted section and loses the end of a clutch lever is not retired, only late, and everything that happens next is measured against a check time somewhere ahead. That is the situation the CRF250RX was built for, and it is the reason a spare control is a sensible thing to own before the season rather than after it. Accossato lists the AGS271 for the CRF250RX of 2019 to 2021, a silver clutch lever in the original form.
Key Features
- Original-form clutch lever for the Honda CRF250RX
- Accossato's entry covers 2019 to 2021
- Silver
- Left-hand side of the bar
- An original spare parts type, priced as a spare rather than a tuning part
- Accossato states that the production method leaves these levers more resistant after damage
- A single lever
- No German ABE and no test mark; listed for racing and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Nothing about the AGS271 is meant to be noticed. It follows the outline of the clutch lever fitted to the CRF250RX when it was new, so the take-up point stays where the left hand has already learned it and no part of the cockpit has to be relearned. Accossato developed these replacement levers with the price of a consumable in mind, and reports that the way they are manufactured leaves them more resistant after a fall or damage. This code is listed in silver. Accossato publishes no material and no measurements for it, so none appear here.
When the Clock Does Not Stop
The cheapest insurance in cross-country racing is a spare lever and a way to fit it. Keep one in the toolbox at the van, not in a drawer at home, and put the tools you need next to it: the right spanner or key for the pivot, a small tube of grease, a rag. Fitting a clutch lever on a CRF250RX takes a couple of minutes with the bike on its stand, which is nothing against the time lost limping a lap with a stub. If the break happens out on the course and you have no spare, the honest choice is to ride with what is left and accept it: a stub can be pulled with a thumb and finger if you have to, but the control is poor and the risk of a second fall goes up, so ride to finish rather than to catch anybody. Back at the van, fit the new lever properly rather than quickly. Clean the pivot, grease it lightly, make sure the bolt is tight without binding the movement, and pull the clutch fully several times to confirm that it returns on its own every time. Then check the engine actually disengages: in gear, on the stand, with the clutch pulled, the wheel should turn freely. Two minutes of checking is what turns a repair into a finish.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the CRF250RX Accossato lists only the AGS271 on the clutch side, over 2019 to 2021, which keeps the choice simple on this model even though the same code overlaps with others elsewhere. The brake side takes the AGD279 for the same years. The AGS271 is also listed with us for the Honda CRF150R, the CRF250R and the CRF450RX, so one lever in the toolbox can cover several bikes in a family or a small team. Accossato's CNC levers for this machine are the B8207 and the C7210.
Road Approval
Accossato provided no test or approval documentation for the AGS271, so neither a German ABE nor a test mark can be quoted. We list the lever for racing and competition.
