DescriptionThe whole story▼
Few entries in a lever catalogue run as long as this one. Accossato gives the AGD279 for the CRF250R from 2007 all the way to 2024, a span that takes in three distinct generations of Honda's quarter-litre motocrosser and a complete change of engine layout somewhere in the middle. For an owner that length is worth a moment's thought, because it says something about which parts of a race bike change and which stay where they are. The AGD279 is a silver front brake lever in the original form for the CRF250R.
Key Features
- Front brake lever of the original type for the Honda CRF250R
- Accossato lists 2007 to 2024
- Silver
- Right-hand side, front brake
- An original spare parts type developed by Accossato for value
- Accossato reports better resistance after damage or a collision
- One lever
- No approval documents available; listed for racing and competition
Construction and Material Quality
The AGD279 does not try to improve on anything. It reproduces the form of the lever Honda used, which on a race bike is the point: a rider who has spent a season learning where the brake bites should not have to learn it again because a control was replaced. Accossato created the range so that a part broken on a Sunday can be replaced without a large invoice, and the company states that its manufacturing process leaves these levers more resistant once they have suffered damage or a fall. Silver is the listed colour. Nothing else about the part is published by Accossato, so nothing else is asserted here.
A Long Span on the List
Seventeen model years under one code tells you where the development effort went on the CRF250R and where it did not. Engines, frames, suspension and bodywork were all reworked more than once in that time; the interface between a hand and a hydraulic front brake was not, because there was no reason to change it. That is good news for anyone running an older bike: a control that has stayed constant is a control that stays available, and availability is half the argument for keeping a ten-year-old motocrosser in club racing at all. It does not, however, mean the code can be ordered blind. Long spans are compiled from many individual confirmations, machines get modified, and a second-hand bike may well be carrying a perch or a master cylinder from a different year without its current owner knowing. The five-minute check is the same as ever: get the fitted lever off the CRF250R, look hard at the pivot end where it meets the master cylinder, compare the curve of the blade with the product photograph, and only then order. If the bike came to you second-hand and its history is a mystery, a photograph sent to us costs nothing and settles it.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the CRF250R the AGD279 is the only original-type brake lever Accossato lists, which removes any doubt on the right-hand side. The clutch side is the busier one, with three codes, the AGS11, the AGS271 and the AGS272, covering overlapping periods. The AGD279 itself also appears with us for the Honda CRF250RX, the CRF450R and the CRF450RX, so a rider with more than one Honda in the van may be covered by a single spare. Accossato's CNC levers for this bike are the B8207 and the C7210.
Road Approval
No approval paperwork for the AGD279 was supplied to us, which means no German ABE and no test mark. The lever is listed for racing and competition, the setting a CRF250R was built for in any case.
