DescriptionThe whole story▼
A small motorcycle is where most people learn to look after a motorcycle. The Scrambler 400 is exactly that kind of machine: light, friendly, cheap to run, and simple enough that a rider with a basic tool roll can take on the jobs a dealer would otherwise do. Brake work is where that education usually starts and where it pays to be methodical. Accossato's TS012 is the aluminium cap for the rear fluid reservoir, machined on CNC equipment and anodised in seven colours.
Key Features
- Rear brake fluid reservoir cap for the Ducati Scrambler 400
- Accossato lists the Hashtag version of 2018
- Replaces the cap on the standard rear reservoir
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
- Seven colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, gold
- The same cap is listed for many larger machines
- No German ABE with us; catalogued for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Aluminium, CNC machining, anodising: the TS012 is made the same way whatever motorcycle it ends up on, and the seven colours are blue, green, black, orange, red, silver and gold. Anodised colour is worked into the metal, so a part that gets splashed and wiped keeps its appearance. Accossato makes the cap for the rear reservoir fitted to the machines in its application list, which means a Scrambler 400 gains a different cap and keeps its brake exactly as it came. Beneath the original cap there is a diaphragm; look at it while it is accessible, and if it has gone hard or split, put that right first.
Learning the Job on a Small Bike
Take the time to do this slowly, because the habits formed here will still be useful on whatever you ride in ten years. Stand the Scrambler 400 upright so the rear reservoir is level rather than tilted, and clean the top of it before a single fastener is loosened; dirt that falls in cannot be fished out again. Spread a cloth over any paint nearby and put a bottle of water beside you, since brake fluid marks lacquer and needs washing off the instant it lands. With the cap away, look at the level against the marks and at the colour of the fluid. Fluid that has gone dark wants changing, and that is a job with a proper bleed at the end, set out by the interval in the owner's manual; the cap has nothing to do with it. Do not leave the reservoir standing open, because the fluid pulls in moisture from the air. Fit the TS012, tighten it gently, press the pedal several times, and check that it feels normal before the bike leaves the garage.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the TS012 for the rear reservoir of the Scrambler 400 in 2018, naming the Hashtag version in its application list. The cap takes the place of the original and the reservoir stays put. Inter-Pace carries the same part for the Hypermotard 821, the Diavel 1260 and Benelli's TRK 502, so it is a well-established item rather than a special order. If the rear brake on your machine has been altered, compare it with the application list before ordering.
Road Approval
We hold no ABE and no test certificate for the TS012, which is the reason it is sold here for racing and competition only.
