DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sooner or later, many S 1000 R owners end up on a circuit. The naked bike shares its engine family with BMW's superbike, and at a track day it holds its own in the intermediate groups. Track days also bring the gravel trap: a slide on the way out of a corner, a trip across the stones and a bike that comes to rest on its side. Accossato lists the PP001 rear axle sliders for the S 1000 R from 2014 to 2018, a black pair in aluminium and plastic intended for the swingarm and rear axle.
Key Features
- Rear axle sliders for the BMW S 1000 R, 2014 to 2018
- Accossato Rear Fork Protection PP001
- Aluminium and plastic, black
- Two pieces, one per side
- Accossato supplies spacers, screws and all other mounting parts
- Designed to touch down first in a slide and help limit damage at the swingarm and rear axle
- Pairs with the PF047 front sliders and TP099 crash pads for this bike
- Intended for track use; no German ABE
Construction and Material Quality
PP001 is Accossato's protector for the rear of the bike: aluminium combined with plastic, finished in black and sold as a pair. Spacers and screws are part of the kit, according to the maker, along with all the other parts needed to fit it. As for the precise position on the S 1000 R, the description is silent, and we keep to that. In a slide, protectors like these are meant to meet the ground before the swingarm and the axle do, which may spare parts that cost a great deal more to replace.
Into the Gravel
Gravel traps exist to slow a sliding bike down, not to be kind to it. A machine that slides into one digs in, may roll over and collects stones in every opening. Often the stretch of tarmac before the trap does the most abrasive work, with bar end, footpeg, radiator shroud and axle ends taking their turns. After a track-day slide, the marshals will help you retrieve the S 1000 R, but the rest of the day depends on what you find back in the paddock. Check the levers, footpegs and sliders, pick the stones out of the radiator and every other opening, and look for fluid leaks before you think about the next session. Replace any slider that is ground down or bent. Most organisers inspect a crashed bike before it goes back out; follow their rules and, if in doubt, ask the technical inspector.
Fitment and Compatibility
PP001 is listed for the S 1000 R from 2014 to 2018, and on this bike Accossato also offers the PF047 front axle sliders and the TP099 crash pads. The same PP001 appears at Inter-Pace for the S 1000 RR, the S 1000 XR and the Suzuki GSX-R 1000. Once it is mounted, spin the rear wheel and check that nothing touches the chain, the brake caliper or the exhaust; the screws are tightened as BMW's workshop manual says.
Road Approval
This rear protector has no documented German ABE or test mark. We therefore supply it for track and racing use.
