DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Accossato 17x18 radial brake master cylinder with folding lever shares the same 17 mm piston and 18 mm pivot as the fixed-lever version in the range, but swaps the lever for a folding design that can pivot back out of the way instead of snapping in a low-speed drop or a knock in the paddock. CNC machined from aluminium and natural anodised in Italy, it suits calipers with a mounting distance of 32 mm or less and keeps the passive stroke of the Accossato radial range as short as the fixed-pivot design allows, so the folding hinge is added without changing how the brake responds on the road.
Key Features
- 17 mm piston diameter, matched to calipers with a 32 mm mounting distance or less
- Fixed 18 mm lever pivot distance, suited to track use and also recommended for the street
- Folding lever, long version, fitted with a relieving eyelet (RST), to resist low-speed knocks
- CNC-machined aluminium body with natural anodising
- Offset riser that reduces master cylinder flex under hard braking
- Passive lever stroke reduced by more than 50 percent versus a standard radial master cylinder
- Stainless steel mounting screws and a zinc-plated bleed valve
- Seals manufactured from Formula 1 compound material
Construction and Material Quality
Every part of this master cylinder is produced in Italy, starting from a solid aluminium billet that is CNC machined and then natural anodised. The hardware specified for the build is stainless steel for the mounting screws and zinc-plated steel for the bleed valve, while the internal seals are Formula 1 compound so they keep a reliable seal through repeated heat cycles and continuous contact with brake fluid. The mounting clamp carries an off-set riser that resists bending of the body under hard braking, and the passages inside the unit are shaped to keep the passive stroke, the gap between pulling the lever and the pads making contact, as short as the fixed 18 mm pivot design permits.
Why a Folding Lever Is Worth Having
A folding lever changes nothing about how this master cylinder brakes compared with the fixed-lever 17x18, since both share the identical 17 mm piston and 18 mm pivot distance; the difference sits entirely at the hinge where the lever meets the body. On the fixed version, a hard knock or a low-speed tip-over can bend or snap the lever outright. The folding hinge on this version lets the lever rotate rearward under an impact instead of taking the full force at one point, which is the reason track riders and anyone who spends time picking a bike up off its side in a paddock or a gravel car park tend to specify it. Day to day on the road the lever still gives the same firm, track-ready feel that Accossato describes for the 18 mm pivot, with nothing given up in outright braking performance for the added resilience.
Fitment and Compatibility
This master cylinder is not matched to a published list of motorcycles, and our fitment data shows no vehicles against it; it is sold as a universal 17 mm radial brake master cylinder for handlebars with a 22 mm clamp diameter. Before buying, confirm that your handlebar takes a 22 mm clamp, that the front brake on your motorcycle is built around a 17 mm master cylinder, and that your caliper's mounting distance does not exceed 32 mm, the limit Accossato sets for this piston size.
Road Approval
This master cylinder is not supplied with German road-approval documentation; it is intended for track and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
The package includes the Accossato 17x18 radial brake master cylinder fitted with a long folding lever and relieving eyelet (RST), finished in natural anodised aluminium. Stainless steel mounting screws, the zinc-plated bleed valve and the Formula 1 compound seals are assembled on the unit. The stop light switch, available separately as ID001 or ID002, and the fluid reservoir are not included and must be purchased separately.
