DescriptionThe whole story▼
On the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin, the rear brake does more than back up the front. On gravel it is often the main tool for controlling speed, and on the road it helps settle the big bike before a bend. Accossato lists its AGPP88 rear set for the CRF1000L Africa Twin of 2016 to 2019, and this version comes in the Organic (OR) compound, a mix for calm daily use that is gentle on the disc.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin, 2016 to 2019
- Organic (OR) compound for smooth, daily rear braking
- Accossato: long-lasting performance and limited disc wear
- Easy to dose on loose surfaces and at low speed
- Two pads in one box
- Offered in ST for the same caliper
- No German ABE on file; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato claims that the Organic compound delivers its performance for longer and keeps wear on the disc low. On a rear brake that is used with a light foot on dirt roads and in traffic, a soft and progressive response is helpful, because it reduces the risk of locking the rear wheel. The manufacturer adds that its pads last long, heat up only moderately and stop strongly, qualities that we describe here without figures.
A Light Foot on the Gravel
Off-road instructors teach riders of large adventure bikes to use the rear brake generously on loose ground, since a locked front wheel on gravel ends quickly on the ground. On the CRF1000L Africa Twin, a rear pad with a gradual onset helps the rider find the point where the tyre still turns. The organic mix also suits the gentle rear braking of daily commuting. Dust and small stones get into the rear caliper on dirt roads, so clean it when you check the pads, and look at the disc for grooves.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGPP88 for the CRF 1000 L Africa Twin of 2016 to 2019 and also for the version with parking brake. Accossato names a second rear pad for this bike as well, the AGPP246, listed from 2016 to 2020. Which of the two you need depends on the caliper your pads come from, so take out an old pad and compare it with the image before ordering. The front takes the AGPA240, listed from 2016 to 2020.
Road Approval
Without a German ABE or any test mark in our files, these pads are sold for closed-course and competition riding.
