DescriptionThe whole story▼
Anyone who has trained for a riding test knows the slow ride, the figure of eight and the U-turn. On a Honda CMX 500 Rebel, a favourite with riding schools and new riders, all three depend on a rear brake that can be dosed gently. Accossato's AGPP185 rear pad in the Organic (OR) compound is made for that fine control. It responds softly from cold, runs quietly and treats the rear disc gently. It is listed for the Rebel 500 from 2017 to 2025, and for the S edition Accossato names for 2020.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Honda CMX 500 Rebel, 2017 to 2025
- Accossato AGPP185 in the Organic (OR) compound, article AGPP185OR
- Also listed for the Rebel 500 S edition of 2020
- Soft, progressive action for slow-speed control
- Two pads per box, the set for the rear caliper
- Quiet and easy on the disc
- No German ABE on record; for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's organic lining in the AGPP185 shape is, in the maker's words, a material that performs for longer and limits wear on the disc. For a rear brake used often at walking pace, the important quality is its gradual onset: pedal pressure translates smoothly into braking, which makes it easier to hold a slow, steady speed without stalling or wobbling.
Test Manoeuvres
The slow ride is the exercise that catches most learners. The trick on a Rebel 500 is to keep the engine slightly above idle, slip the clutch and use the rear brake to control speed, head up and eyes on the far end of the course. In a U-turn, the same technique keeps the bike stable at full lock, with no front brake at all. A progressive rear pad makes these inputs forgiving. For bikes used in training, check the rear pads frequently, because constant slow riding with the brake applied wears them faster than normal road use. After fitting new pads, pump the pedal until firm and practise a few stops in a quiet place before the next lesson.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGPP185 for the rear of the Honda CMX 500 Rebel of 2017 to 2025, including the S edition of 2020, and the AGPA81 for the front. The AGPP185 is also available as Sintered (ST). Check the old pads against the product picture before ordering.
Road Approval
No ABE and no test mark have been passed to us for the AGPP185OR; it is sold for trackdays and competition.
