DescriptionThe whole story▼
Motorcycles that stand for weeks have their own kind of wear. The Ducati Panigale 959, a machine built from 2016 to 2020 and often kept as a second bike, gets used in bursts: a good weekend, then a month in the garage while life happens. The rear brake feels that more than any other part. Accossato's rear pad for the 959 is the AGPA42, and this listing is the Organic material, credited by the company with a long working life and with limiting the wear it puts into the disc.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Ducati Panigale 959, 2016 to 2020
- AGPA42OR: the AGPA42 carrier with the Organic material
- Accossato claims long service and reduced wear on the disc
- For a machine ridden in bursts and parked for weeks in between
- Two pads in the box, the set for the rear caliper
- One caliper at the rear, so a single box finishes the axle
- ST and ZXC are the other materials on this carrier
- No German ABE available; catalogued for racing and closed-course use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato asks two things of this material, and neither is spectacular: that it should last and that it should be gentle on the disc it works against. Both suit a rear axle, where the pads are under light pressure most of the time and the disc is the part nobody wants to replace. On a 959 the compound will spend far more of its life parked than working, which is its own test. The carrier is the AGPA42 used for every material on this axle, so the choice between them is a choice of working face.
What Standing Still Does to a Rear Brake
Park a motorcycle wet, leave it for a month, and the rear disc will have a rough brown bloom on it by the time you come back. The first press of the pedal scrapes most of that away with a noise that worries people unnecessarily, and after a few applications the face is bright again. What matters more is what has been happening out of sight: moisture around the caliper, dirt drying into the gaps beside the pads, and a slide pin that has begun to stiffen while nothing was moving.
A little preparation avoids all of it. Ride the machine dry before it goes away, or at least let it stand outside long enough for the water to leave the disc. If the Panigale 959 is going to sleep for the winter, leave the pedal alone rather than tying anything down, and turn the back wheel occasionally so the pads are not always resting in the same place. When the bike comes out again, use the rear brake gently for the first few applications and then look at the pads properly, because a set that has stood for months can be perfectly good or can have been quietly seized in one corner.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGPA42 for the rear wheel of the Panigale 959 from 2016 to 2020, the 959 Corse included in the same entry. Nothing beyond that period or that model is claimed here. The front of the same machine runs the AGPA177 across those years, and the disc catalogue offers the DK008, the DK053 and the DKS035. A single caliper works the rear wheel, so one box does the axle, with both pads changed together so the caliper closes evenly on the disc.
Road Approval
No German ABE was supplied with the AGPA42OR, and there is no test certificate behind it. The pads are accordingly listed for racing and closed-course use rather than for the public road.
Scope of Delivery
One box containing two AGPA42 pads in the Organic material, the complete set for the rear caliper of a Panigale 959.
