DescriptionThe whole story▼

Parts for a Ducati Panigale 1299 Superleggera are not things you replace casually. The 2017 machine was built in small numbers, and an owner who scores a disc discovers quickly how thin the supply of components for it has become. That is a reasonable argument for the rear pad offered here, the AGPA42 in the Organic material, which Accossato credits with a long working life and with limiting the wear it inflicts on the disc it runs against.

Key Features

  • Rear brake pads for the Ducati Panigale 1299 Superleggera, 2017
  • AGPA42OR: the AGPA42 carrier with the Organic material
  • Accossato claims long service and reduced wear on the disc
  • An argument for a machine whose parts are difficult to replace
  • Two pads in the box, the set for the rear caliper
  • One caliper at the rear, so a single box finishes the axle
  • ST and ZXC are the other materials on this carrier
  • No German ABE documented; catalogued for racing and closed-course use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato makes two promises about this material and both concern endurance. It should go on working for a long stretch, and it should treat the disc gently while it does. On the rear axle of a limited machine that second promise is the interesting one, because the pads are the cheap half of the pair and the disc is the half that takes weeks to find. The AGPA42 carrier underneath is the same across all three materials offered for this axle, so the difference between them lies entirely in the face presented to the disc.

Looking After the Parts You Cannot Buy Twice

There is a way of owning a rare motorcycle that is not about keeping the odometer low. It is about maintenance that prevents damage rather than repairing it: clean fasteners, fresh fluid, and a habit of catching wear before it reaches something expensive. A rear disc is a good example. It is out of sight behind the wheel, it collects everything the tyre throws at it, and it can be ruined in an afternoon by a set of pads that ran down to the carrier while nobody was looking.

Three checks cover most of it on a 1299 Superleggera. Look at the rear pads from behind with a torch at least twice a season and compare the two, since an unequal pair points at a caliper that has stopped moving freely on its mounting. Run a fingernail across the disc for a lip at the outer edge. And when a new set goes in, clean the piston faces before they are pushed back rather than forcing them through whatever has built up around them. None of this takes long, and all of it is cheaper than sourcing a rear disc for a Superleggera.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato names the AGPA42 for the rear wheel of the 1299 Superleggera, model year 2017. The entry covers that machine only; the rest of the 1299 range appears elsewhere in the same catalogue. The front of the Superleggera is served by the AGPA106, again for 2017, and no disc for this model appears in the Accossato programme. The rear axle carries one caliper, so a single box completes it, with both pads changed together so the caliper closes squarely.

Road Approval

Nothing in the way of a German ABE or a test certificate has reached us for the AGPA42OR. The pads are therefore listed for competition and closed-course use, not for public roads.

Scope of Delivery

One box containing two AGPA42 pads in the Organic material, the full set for the rear caliper of a Panigale 1299 Superleggera.
