DescriptionThe whole story▼
Anyone who has pushed a Monster 1200 R backwards up the slope of a paddock knows what the rear brake is for. Below walking pace the pedal is the control that counts, on its own or against a slipping clutch, and the front lever is better left alone. Accossato serves the rear wheel of the Ducati Monster 1200 R from 2016 to 2019 with the AGPA42, and this listing is the Organic material, article AGPA42OR, which the company connects with a long working life and with limited wear on the disc.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Ducati Monster 1200 R, 2016 to 2019
- AGPA42OR: the AGPA42 plate in the Organic material
- Accossato links the compound to long life and gentle disc wear
- For manoeuvring, loading and low-speed control
- A single rear caliper, so one box covers the axle
- Two pads in the box
- The same plate is also listed in ST and ZXC
- No German ABE on record; supplied for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Longevity and kindness to the disc are the two things claimed here, and both are aimed at the end of the machine where a rider is least likely to be counting tenths of a second. A rear disc that lasts is a rear disc nobody has to think about, which on a bike that gets loaded into vans and pushed around paddocks is not a small thing. The AGPA42 plate is common to the versions of this article, so what differs between them is the material and nothing besides.
Manoeuvring by Hand and Loading a Van
Getting a Monster 1200 R into a van is a two-minute job that goes wrong in interesting ways. The ramp is never quite long enough, the paddock surface is never quite level, and the machine has to be held still at several points along the way. That holding is done with the rear brake, either from the saddle at walking pace or with a boot on the pedal while somebody else steadies the handlebar. Nothing about it is fast, and all of it depends on the pedal doing the same thing every time.
The same demands turn up in a pit lane, in a supermarket car park and on any driveway with a camber running across it. What those situations share is that the machine is barely moving, so almost nothing is being turned into heat and the material is simply being asked to be present. Owners who shuttle a bike about like this every weekend collect an enormous number of applications and hardly any temperature, a combination this compound copes with easily. The thing to watch instead is contamination, since a rear disc lives close to the chain and whatever migrates across from it will spoil the feel of a new set long before the material is used up.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGPA42 at the rear of the Ducati Monster 1200 R for 2016 to 2019: one caliper, one box. Up front the same machine is covered by the AGPA106 over those four seasons, with two calipers to feed and two boxes to buy. The disc programme for this model contains the DK053 and the DKS053. Because the pad shape appears under several bikes, it is the article number that should go on an order rather than the model name.
Road Approval
We hold no German ABE for the AGPA42OR and no test documentation, so the pads are catalogued for racing and closed-course use only.
Scope of Delivery
One box with two AGPA42 pads in the Organic material, which is the whole rear axle of the Monster 1200 R.
