DescriptionThe whole story▼

Moving up to a BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is mostly a matter of getting used to the first and last minute of every ride. The seat is high, the machine is broad across the tank, and at walking pace it asks to be ridden rather than paddled. The control that makes all of that manageable is the rear brake, and Accossato builds its AGPA92 pad for the 2014 to 2018 Adventure in the Organic (OR) compound, the mildest material in the range, with a long working life and gentle treatment of the disc as the two things the company promises for it.

Key Features

  • Rear brake pads for the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, 2014 to 2018
  • Organic (OR) filling of the AGPA92 plate, article number AGPA92OR
  • Accossato names long life and a gentle effect on the disc
  • The mildest of the five materials offered in this shape
  • One rear caliper, one box, two pads
  • ST, EV1, EV2 and ZXC cover the same plate for other kinds of riding
  • Front pads for this machine: AGPA177; the DK006 is the listed disc
  • No German ABE on record; sold for competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Among the fillings offered on the AGPA92 plate, the organic one asks least of the rider and least of the disc. Accossato's two claims for it, a long service life and restraint in how much metal it takes off the friction ring, both suit a rear brake, which spends its life doing light work in a dirty place and is served by a disc that few owners ever measure. It is also an unobtrusive material in daily use, and on a heavy bike that is manoeuvred slowly a great deal, quiet is a genuine virtue. The rear caliper holds two pads, which is what arrives in the box.

Learning to Live With a Tall Bike

Riders arriving from a smaller machine usually make the same discovery in the first week: a GS Adventure is easier at a steady jogging pace than at a crawl. The trick is to stop trying to balance it with your legs and start using the rear brake as a stabiliser. A light drag on the pedal against a little throttle, with the clutch taking up the difference, gives a heavy bike a surprising amount of poise. It will turn full lock in a car park, creep up a ramp and hold still on a slope, all without your boots leaving the pegs. Practise it somewhere empty before you need it at a fuel station with an audience. The rear pads never get hot during this kind of work, so a mild material is well matched to it, and a small maintenance habit keeps the system honest: after any dusty or gritty road, rinse the rear wheel with plain water and check that the pedal has a little free travel before it starts to bite.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists this pad at the rear wheel of the R 1200 GS Adventure built from 2014 to 2018 and names no other model for it. A single box does the job, because there is one caliper back there, and both pads belong in it together. Four further materials use the same plate, from the all-weather ST through EV1 to the two competition fillings. The front of the bike takes the AGPA177, and Accossato also catalogues the DK006 disc for this GS Adventure.

Road Approval

Neither a German ABE nor any other approval has been documented to us for the AGPA92OR, so we offer it for competition and closed-course riding.

Scope of Delivery

One box of two AGPA92 pads in the Organic (OR) compound, which fills the rear caliper.
