DescriptionThe whole story▼

The rear brake on a Shiver 750 does most of its work below walking pace. Turning the bike round in a narrow street, rolling it backwards out of a parking space, holding it steady while a passenger climbs aboard: all of that happens with a foot on the pedal and the clutch slipping. Accossato's AGPP91 is the rear pad for the Aprilia Shiver 750 of 2007 to 2018, and this article is the Organic compound, which the company ties to a long working life and restrained wear on the disc.

Key Features

  • Rear brake pads for the Aprilia Shiver 750, 2007 to 2018
  • Organic (OR) compound, listed here as an article in its own right
  • Accossato's words for OR: performance that lasts, with limited wear on the disc
  • Two pads in the box, which is what the single rear caliper needs
  • Goes into the standard rear caliper without modification
  • Front axle of the same bike: Accossato AGPA101
  • Accossato catalogues the DKS032 disc for the Shiver 750
  • No German ABE or test mark on file; sold for racing and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Organic sits at the quiet end of Accossato's range, and the claim attached to it runs along two lines: the pad keeps performing over a long period, and it limits the wear it causes on the disc. A rear disc leads a hard life anyway, sprayed with chain lube, road film and whatever the front tyre throws back at it, so a compound that treats it kindly protects a part which is awkward to replace. There is nothing exotic about the mix; it is the everyday option in a range that also reaches into racing.

At Walking Pace

Slow-speed control is the skill that separates a relaxed rider from a nervous one, and the rear brake is the tool for it. A light, steady drag on the pedal against a slipping clutch keeps the bike settled through a full-lock turn, stops it lurching when the throttle is picked up, and lets a Shiver 750 be turned in the width of a quiet road without a boot touching the ground. Nobody does that well with a pedal that grabs.

The same brake holds the machine on a slope while the rider shifts weight, or while a pillion settles. Practise it somewhere empty: figures of eight, a slow ride the length of a car park, a U-turn between two lines. Keep an eye on the pad while you are at it, because a rear that is constantly feathered wears faster than the distance covered suggests, and the change is easy to miss until the pedal travel grows.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the rear wheel, Accossato names the Shiver 750 of 2007 to 2018 and no other version of it. One caliper works that wheel, so one box does the whole job. The front axle of the same Aprilia takes the AGPA101 with its own choice of compounds, and the DKS032 is the disc the catalogue offers for this model. Pads and disc are worth checking together, since a tired disc takes the edge off any new pad.

Road Approval

We have no ABE and no test documentation for the AGPP91 in this compound, so it is supplied for racing and competition use.

Scope of Delivery

One box with two Organic (OR) pads for the rear caliper of the Shiver 750.
