DescriptionThe whole story▼
A great many Caballero 500 machines never travel far in a day. The Fantic is light, narrow and easy to park, so it ends up doing the short journeys: across town, out to the station, round to a friend and back before the engine has properly settled. Accossato's AGPA184 is the front pad for the 2022 and 2023 bikes, and in the Organic material, article AGPA184OR, the factory points to a long working life and to restraint towards the disc. Both of those suit a brake that rarely gets hot.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the Fantic Caballero 500, 2022 and 2023
- Article AGPA184OR: the AGPA184 plate carrying the Organic material
- Accossato promises long service and limited wear on the disc
- Written for short journeys and frequent, gentle applications
- Listed for the Scrambler, Rally, Explorer, Flat Track, Deluxe, Anniversary and Six Days
- A box is the set for one caliper; the 500 runs a single disc at the front
- The same plate is also offered in ST and EV1
- No German ABE on file; supplied for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes two statements about this mixture and they reinforce one another. Material that gives itself away slowly stays useful for longer, and a surface that is easy on the disc puts off the larger bill that sits behind every pad change. Neither claim is about maximum force, which is the honest part: this is a compound for riders who want a brake that behaves the same way for a long time. Underneath sits the ordinary AGPA184 carrier, shared by all three versions of the article, so choosing between them is a choice of friction surface and never a question of whether the pad will fit.
The Bike That Never Warms Up
Short trips are their own kind of hard service. The disc barely rises above the temperature of the air, the friction surface never really dries after a night in the open, and the first application of each journey happens at a junction with traffic behind. A mixture drawn around everyday use is meant to answer straight away in exactly those conditions, without the warm-up a competition material expects and without asking the rider to allow for it.
Town riding also concentrates the small jobs that keep a brake honest. Grit collects around the caliper mouth and can be brushed out before it works its way in. A disc that has stood wet through a fortnight of rain shows a thin film of rust that the first few stops will clear, which is normal, while deep pitting is not. Pads wear more evenly if the pistons stay clean, so wipe the visible part of each one before pushing it back, and pump the lever until it is solid before the Caballero 500 is ridden away.
Fitment and Compatibility
This front entry belongs to the second generation of the family. Accossato names the Explorer, the Rally and the Scrambler across 2022 and 2023, the Anniversary, the Deluxe and the Flat Track in 2023, and the Six Days in 2022. Earlier bikes are a separate matter: the first Caballero 500 of 2017 takes the AGPA177 at the front, and nothing is listed for the seasons in between. At the rear the AGPP91 covers both eras. One box fills one caliper, and the article number on the pad you take out is the safest thing to order against.
Road Approval
We hold no ABE for the AGPA184OR and no German inspection paperwork. The article is offered for competition rather than for the public road.
