DescriptionThe whole story▼
The steering stem nut holds the top of the fork and triple clamp onto the steering stem, which puts it among the more safety-critical fasteners on a motorcycle, and it is exactly the kind of part a rider fits but leaves a qualified mechanic to torque and set up. Accossato's open version, CNC-machined in aluminium with an M28x1 thread and anodised to order, does the same job as the stock nut while adding a choice of colour at the top of the steering head, one of the more visible spots on a stripped-down sportbike.
Key Features
- Steering stem nut, open, for the BMW S1000RR, 2009-2017

- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised to order
- Supplied as a single nut
- Seven colours: blue, green, black, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Also fits any application with the same M28x1 thread
- SC001, the closed version, is also listed for this S1000RR
- No German ABE on file; offered for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The nut is CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised in seven colours: blue, green, black, red, silver, titanium and gold. Its thread, M28x1, is the figure Accossato gives for fitment, and the stated function is straightforward: it fixes the plate to the steering stem, holding the top clamp in place at the head of the forks.
A Job for Kundige Hands
Work at the steering head affects how the bike turns, how the forks are clamped, and ultimately how it behaves at speed, so this is not a component to set and forget without reference to the S1000RR's own workshop manual, which specifies the torque and procedure for the model and year in question. Fitting an anodised nut changes the appearance of that one point at the top of the yoke; it does not change the care the job deserves, and that work belongs with someone who already knows the bike.
Fitment and Compatibility
This open nut fits the BMW S 1000 RR across 2009 to 2017. Because the thread is M28x1 rather than something specific to BMW, it reaches onto the Kawasaki Ninja H2, ZX-10R and ZX-6R, four Suzuki GSX-R and GSX-S models, and five Yamaha sportbikes, among them the R1, R1M and R6. SC001 closes the same thread over for a different look, and sits alongside the fork preload adjuster, mirror covers and swingarm bobbins also listed for this S1000RR.
Road Approval
No test or approval documents, including an ABE, are held for this nut, so it is offered for racing and competition use.
Scope of Delivery
One nut is supplied in the colour chosen at checkout. No tools travel with it.
