Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the FP004 from aluminium stock on CNC equipment, and the anodising that follows gives it a colour that becomes part of the metal's own surface. The sole figure stated is the M20x2.5 thread; past it, the application list is what settles fitment rather than a further dimension. A buyer who wants the XSR900's brushed tank panels to stay the focal point leaves this cap titanium, black or silver, while orange, red, blue, green or gold give the filler its own small accent.
The Engine Beneath the Tank
Peel away the XSR900's vintage-inspired panels and the three-cylinder engine sitting underneath follows the same basic oil routine as any other current Yamaha, regardless of the badge on the tank. Cool the engine down fully before unscrewing anything, and note the level beforehand exactly as the owner's manual describes with the bike standing level. A quick wipe around the filler keeps dirt from falling in once the old cap lifts clear, and it is worth looking over both the thread and the sealing face while they are exposed. Top up a little at a time if the level calls for it, and turn the FP004 home by hand until it simply stops.
Fitment and Compatibility
From 2016 through to 2020, every Yamaha XSR900 is named on Accossato's own records for the FP004, a cap shared with the Ducati Hyperstrada 821 and a handful of Hypermotard versions wherever the identical filler size appears. The TS011 front brake cap and the TS013 rear brake fluid reservoir cap round out Accossato's range for this XSR900.
Road Approval
Accossato has given us no test or approval paperwork for the FP004, so it is offered for racing and closed-course use rather than German road use.
