DescriptionThe whole story▼
Yamaha put a three-cylinder engine at the centre of the naked "Master of Torque" line when the MT-09 launched in 2013, leaving that engine completely uncovered with no bodywork anywhere near it. Accossato's FP004 oil filler cap, CNC-machined aluminium anodised in eight colours with an M20x2.5 thread, sits right where that engine is on full show.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Yamaha MT-09, 2013 to 2020, including ABS versions
- M20x2.5 thread, the size Accossato states
- CNC-machined aluminium with an anodised finish
- Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Also fits other motorcycles sharing the same filler thread
- TS011 front brake and TS013 rear brake fluid reservoir caps listed for the same MT-09
- A detail in full view on a naked triple with nothing covering the engine
- No German ABE on file; built for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
CNC machinery shapes a block of aluminium into the FP004, and anodising afterwards gives it a finish that sits inside the metal's own surface rather than sitting on top as paint. The M20x2.5 thread is the one figure Accossato commits to; past that, fitment depends on the application list rather than a further measurement. A buyer keeping the MT-09 close to its launch colours reaches for titanium, black or silver, while orange, red, blue, green or gold play up a triple built to have its engine seen.
Riding a Bike Built Around Its Engine
Small details like a filler cap carry more visual weight on the MT-09 than they would on a faired machine, simply because nothing covers the engine they sit on top of, which is reason enough to keep both the cap and the oil beneath it in good order. Give the engine time to cool properly first, then read the oil level the way the handbook describes with the bike standing on level ground. A quick wipe around the opening keeps dirt out of the filler once the old cap lifts clear, and it is worth checking the thread and the sealing face on the cap itself as well as the housing it screws into. Should the level call for a top-up, pour it in gradually and turn the FP004 home by hand, stopping as soon as it seats.
Fitment and Compatibility
From 2013 to 2020, including every ABS version, the MT-09 is on Accossato's list for the FP004, a cap also named for the Ducati Diavel range, the Diavel Carbon and the Monster 1200, plus several Hypermotard versions, wherever the filler size matches. The TS011 front brake cap and the TS013 rear brake fluid reservoir cap are Accossato's other listings for this MT-09.
Road Approval
Accossato has given us no test or approval paperwork for the FP004, so it is offered for racing and closed-course use rather than German road use.
