DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Panigale 1299 S closed a chapter. After it, Ducati's flagship superbike moved to four cylinders, and the big Superquadro twin that had powered the 1199 and the 1299 stepped out of the top slot for good. Owners tend to know that, and they treat the bike accordingly: kept rather than traded, ridden on chosen days, looked after in detail. The FP004 belongs to that way of thinking, an oil filler cap machined from aluminium with an M20x2.5 thread, offered in eight anodised colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Ducati Panigale 1299 S, 2015 to 2017
- Accossato's list covers the ABS version of these years
- M20x2.5, the thread size Accossato states for this cap
- Made from aluminium on CNC machinery, then anodised
- Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Suits other machines whose filler uses the same thread size
- No German ABE available to us; listed for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Aluminium, a CNC machine and an anodising bath: that is the whole recipe behind the FP004, and it explains why the colour does not sit in a layer of paint that can be scratched off the edge of the knurling. The thread is M20x2.5. That figure is also the only dimension Accossato publishes, because it is the one that decides whether a cap fits; the maker names the applications on its list and adds that machines with the same filler size can take it too. Titanium, silver and black leave the engine of a Panigale 1299 S looking standard from two paces away, while gold, red, orange, blue or green make a deliberate point of it.
The Last of the Big Twins
A bike that is kept for years is a bike whose oil routine becomes a habit, and habits are worth getting right. Work on a Panigale 1299 S that has been standing long enough to be properly cold, never on one that has just come off a fast road; hot oil clings to the upper engine and reads low, and a hot filler is unpleasant in the hand. Support the machine as the owner's manual requires while you take the reading, and do not improvise a position that seems close enough. Clean around the filler before it is opened, because anything lying on that surface has only one direction to travel once the hole is uncovered. Glance at the thread and the sealing face on both the cap and the engine; a wipe with a lint-free cloth is usually all they need. Add oil in small amounts and check again between them rather than filling and hoping. The FP004 then goes in by hand and stops where it seats. A cap that has been forced is harder to remove at the next service and seals no better for the violence. After the first ride, look underneath: the casing should be dry.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Panigale 1299 S, Accossato lists the FP004 for model years 2015 to 2017, the ABS version included. Since the cap is defined by its M20x2.5 thread, it also serves other motorcycles whose filler takes that size, and our catalogue shows the same part for the Monster 1200 S, the Hypermotard 950 and the DesertX. Owners of a machine with a replacement engine cover, or with a cap of unknown origin already fitted, should compare the thread before ordering rather than after.
Road Approval
We have received neither an ABE nor any other test document for the FP004, so the cap is sold here for competition and track use only.
