DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Hyperstrada 821 was Ducati's answer to riders who loved the Hypermotard but wanted to travel on it: the same agile chassis and liquid-cooled Testastretta twin, joined by side cases, a taller screen and a seat made for long days. Bikes like this are often ridden deep into autumn, until frosty mornings finally send them into the garage for the winter. For the Hyperstrada 821 of 2013 to 2016, Accossato lists the FP004, an aluminium oil filler cap with an M20x2.5 thread, CNC-machined and anodised in eight colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Ducati Hyperstrada 821, 2013 to 2016
- M20x2.5 thread as given by Accossato
- CNC-machined aluminium body, anodised
- Eight colours: silver, titanium, black, blue, green, red, orange, gold
- Suitable for other motorcycles with the same cap size, after a check
- TS012 and TS014 rear reservoir caps also listed for this bike
- No German ABE on file; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The FP004 is made from aluminium, machined to shape on CNC equipment and then anodised. The colour is part of that anodised surface, and eight are offered, from understated silver, titanium and black to blue, green, red, orange and gold. Accossato gives the thread size as M20x2.5 and notes that the cap suits its listed applications as well as other motorcycles with the same cap size. A clean thread and a clean face on the engine side are all it needs to seat properly on the Hyperstrada 821.
Fresh Oil Before the Winter Lay-Up
Many experienced owners change the engine oil before a motorcycle goes into storage rather than after, so that the engine spends the quiet months with fresh oil instead of oil that has done a season's work. On a Hyperstrada 821, the last dry weekend of autumn is a good date for the job, or for a visit to the workshop. Whoever does it, the filler is the last opening to be closed. Let the engine cool completely, clean around the filler so no grit can fall in, and fill to the level the owner's manual describes, checking with the bike positioned as the manual says. Turn the FP004 in by hand until it seats, and leave it there; more force does not make it seal better. Then start the engine briefly, switch it off, allow the oil to settle and look again at the level and at the casing around the cap. During the winter, an occasional look at the floor beneath the bike confirms that all is dry, and in spring the season starts with oil that is fresh.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list covers the Hyperstrada 821 from 2013 to 2016 for the FP004. Because the cap is defined by its M20x2.5 thread, Accossato considers it usable on other motorcycles with the same size, and we list it for the Hypermotard 821, the Monster 821 and the Diavel as well. If the cap currently in your Hyperstrada 821 is not the original, check its thread before ordering. For the rear brake reservoir of this bike, Accossato offers two caps, the TS012 and the TS014.
Road Approval
Neither an ABE nor another test document for the FP004 is available to us; we list it for racing and competition use.
