DescriptionThe whole story▼
The DL1000 V-Strom has carried riders across continents since 2002, a big V-twin adventure bike built for days on end rather than a single afternoon loop. For an engine that covers that kind of distance, Accossato makes the FP001, an oil filler cap of CNC-machined aluminium with an M20x1.5 thread, anodised in eight colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Suzuki DL1000 V-STROM, 2002 to 2010, 2014 to 2016 and 2018 to 2019
- M20x1.5 thread, the size Accossato quotes for this filler
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised rather than painted
- Eight colours: orange, blue, green, black, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Also fits other motorcycles sharing the same M20x1.5 filler
- TS009 front brake fluid reservoir cap listed for the same V-Strom
- Replaces a cap that has faded or cracked with age
- No German ABE on file; built with track and competition use in mind
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the FP001 from a block of aluminium and anodises the surface afterwards, so the colour is part of the metal rather than a layer sitting on top of it. The thread is M20x1.5, which is the only dimension Accossato states, and the maker describes the cap as suited to the applications it lists plus any other motorcycle with a filler of that size. Titanium and black read as discreet options on a travel-worn V-Strom, while orange, blue, green, red, silver or gold give the filler a splash of colour that stands out against grey plastic bodywork.
Oil Checks on a Touring Bike
A V-Strom often does its hardest work a long way from home, so the oil check belongs at the start of a trip, not somewhere along the way. Let the engine stand until it has cooled and put the bike on its stand on level ground, then read the level the way the owner's manual describes before going near the filler. Wipe the area around the opening first; any grit that falls in at that point ends up circulating with the oil. Check the thread and the sealing face on both the cap and the opening, and clean them if needed. Top up gradually with the oil the manual calls for, checking again as you go, then turn the FP001 in by hand until it seats, never forcing it further. A cap tightened with too much effort is only harder to remove at the next service, and no more secure for it. After the first ride on a long trip, look at the filler area again to confirm it is dry.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP001 for the DL1000 V-Strom across its 2002 to 2010, 2014 to 2016 and 2018 to 2019 production, and the same cap is also listed for the Aprilia Caponord 1200 and Caponord 1200 Rally, the Aprilia Dorsoduro 750, 900 and 1200, the Aprilia Shiver 750 and 900 and the Benelli Leoncino 500, among others, wherever the filler measures the same. Because the fitment runs on thread size rather than badge, check the application before ordering. Accossato also lists the TS009 front brake fluid reservoir cap for this V-Strom, so an owner going for a full colour match on the bars and the engine has both covered.
Road Approval
Accossato has not supplied us with test or approval paperwork for the FP001, so Inter-Pace lists it for racing and closed-course use rather than for the public road; there is no German ABE on file for this cap.
