DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of Dorsoduro 1200 owners do some of their own servicing between dealer visits, and the oil change is the job most of them learn first. Aprilia's big supermoto-styled V-twin, built from 2010 to 2016, is a bike people like to spanner on themselves, and the oil filler cap is the part you handle at the very start and the very end of that job. Accossato's FP001 is an aluminium replacement for it, machined on CNC equipment, anodised in eight colours and cut with an M20x1.5 thread.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200, 2010 to 2016
- M20x1.5 thread according to Accossato
- Machined from aluminium, anodised afterwards
- Colour choice: red, black, silver, titanium, gold, blue, green or orange
- Also fits other motorcycles with the same cap size, after checking
- Accossato FP007 and TS012 caps available for the same bike
- No German ABE on file; intended for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Aluminium is the starting point: Accossato mills the FP001 on CNC machines and then anodises it, which colours the surface of the metal itself. Eight finishes are available, from red, black and silver to titanium, gold, blue, green and orange. The thread is M20x1.5. Accossato states that the cap fits the applications on its list and can also be used on other motorcycles with a cap of the same size, so the thread is what to compare if you own more than one bike. Keep that thread clean, and the flat face that seals against the engine as well.
Oil Change on a Saturday Afternoon
A home oil change starts with the owner's manual, not with the spanner. It tells you how the Dorsoduro 1200 has to stand, which oil and filter it needs and how the level is read afterwards. Work with the engine switched off and cool enough to touch, lay cardboard under the bike and keep a tray ready for the old oil. Open the filler before anything else, set the cap down on a clean rag and cover the opening loosely so nothing falls in while you work underneath. Once the new oil is in, check the level exactly as the manual says, wipe the thread and the sealing face, and turn the FP001 in by hand until it seats. Force adds nothing here. Take the old oil to a collection point rather than the bin, and note the date and mileage in the service book. On the first ride afterwards, stop after a few minutes and look at the filler and the engine case below it; both should be dry.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP001 for the Dorsoduro 1200 from 2010 to 2016. The cap is defined by its M20x1.5 thread, and Accossato says it also suits other motorcycles with the same cap size. At Inter-Pace it is listed as well for the Dorsoduro 750, the Caponord 1200 and the Benelli Leoncino 500. For the Dorsoduro 1200, Accossato also makes the FP007 clutch master cylinder cover and the TS012 rear brake fluid reservoir cap. If the engine of your bike has been modified or the original cap is missing, compare the thread before ordering.
Road Approval
Accossato's oil filler cap reaches us without an ABE or test mark. For that reason we supply it for racing and competition use.
