DescriptionThe whole story▼
Mud finds its way into every gap on a 450 EXC-F after a wet race, and the top of the swingarm is one of the first places it settles once the chain has flung it there for an hour. Underneath that mud, the chain is dragging across the swingarm with every metre the bike covers, and the swingarm itself takes the wear unless something is fitted to carry the load instead. Accossato builds the GPM1 for exactly that job on the EXC-F 450 from 2012 to 2016, a slider the chain runs over rather than the swingarm underneath it.
Key Features
- Swingarm chain slider for the KTM 450 EXC-F, 2012 to 2016
- Accossato code GPM1, fits along the top of the swingarm
- Chain runs over the slider rather than the swingarm itself
- Orange, blue or black to suit the rest of the bike
- Listed for the same run of Husqvarna four-strokes and the KTM 125 EXC
- Pairs with Accossato's GCM1 chain guide and GSM1 floating slider on the same bike
- No German ABE on file; for off-road and competition riding
Construction and Material Quality
The GPM1 is shaped to Accossato's own template for this swingarm rather than cut to a generic length, so the slider sits flush along the section the chain actually crosses instead of overhanging either end. Its surface is what takes the ongoing contact with the moving chain, which is the entire point of fitting a slider in the first place: a part made to wear in that spot so the swingarm itself does not. Colour is a straightforward pick between orange, blue and black, chosen to suit the bike rather than to change how the slider works. Checking the slider's surface from time to time, and replacing it once it looks worn, is worth doing like any other wear part on the bike.
After a Race in the Rain
A motocross or enduro race run in standing water leaves a fine grinding paste of grit and mud on everything the chain touches, and that mixture does not wash off cleanly from the swingarm between motos. Riders who hose the bike down after a wet race and inspect the chain line often find the top of the swingarm scored where the chain has been dragging through the paste all afternoon. A slider changes what the chain is actually dragging across: instead of wearing a groove into the swingarm itself, the chain works against a part designed to be replaced once it has taken enough abrasion. Cleaning the chain thoroughly after a muddy race, and checking the slider for wear at the same time, is the kind of habit that keeps the swingarm looking as it should years into ownership.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato names the EXC-F 450 built between 2012 and 2016 on the GPM1's own application list, a narrower window than some of its other parts for this bike. The identical slider also fits a group of Husqvarna four-strokes sharing that same swingarm, plus the smaller KTM 125 EXC. Because the window is narrower here than on the related chain guide, checking the application list against your own frame year matters even more before ordering. The same bike can also take Accossato's floating slider, chain guide and either style of axle block, so riders refreshing the whole chain line in one go have the full set listed under this bike.
Road Approval
Accossato has no German ABE on file for the GPM1, so it is intended for off-road and competition use, not for a bike used on public roads.
