DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of riders keep a two-stroke YZ125 around for club races and weekend fun long after moving their main attention to a four-stroke, and a bike used this way still needs the same basic chain-care parts as one ridden every weekend, just over fewer hours each year. Accossato lists the GCY1 for the YZ125 built from 2008 to 2020, a chain guide fitted ahead of the sprocket to keep the chain tracking true whenever the bike does come out.
Key Features
- Chain guide for the Yamaha YZ125, 2008 to 2020
- Accossato code GCY1, mounts ahead of the rear sprocket
- Keeps the chain tracking on line rather than drifting off the sprocket
- Blue or black
- Same part also listed for the Yamaha WR450F, YZ250, YZ250F and YZ450F
- Accossato also lists rear axle blocks for this bike under RCY1 and RTY1
- No German ABE on file; built for off-road and competition riding
Construction and Material Quality
The GCY1 is shaped to the YZ125's own swingarm, sitting ahead of the sprocket in the position this bike calls for. Blue and black make up the two finishes on offer, both drawn from Yamaha's own colours. A guide that no longer sits flush against the sprocket after a hard knock should be checked and replaced if needed, even on a bike that only comes out occasionally.
A Two-Stroke Kept for Weekend Fun
A bike ridden less often does not automatically need less care between rides, and a YZ125 that spends most of the year parked, brought out only for the occasional club race or trail day with friends, still has a chain that can seize slightly and a guide that can crack from sitting still as easily as from being used hard. Giving the bike a proper look before each outing, rather than assuming low mileage means low wear, catches problems that build up quietly during long periods of storage rather than from riding itself.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's own list runs the YZ125 on the GCY1 from 2008 to 2020, and the identical guide also covers the WR450F, YZ250, YZ250F and YZ450F, since all share the relevant swingarm shape. A bike from either end of that run is worth checking against the list before ordering. This YZ125 also takes Accossato's RCY1 axle blocks with an adjusting screw or the RTY1 without one.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on file for the GCY1, so Accossato lists it for off-road and competition use rather than for a bike ridden on public roads.
