DescriptionThe whole story▼
A trail ride that crosses a stretch of fallen branches asks more of a chain guide than almost anything else on a CRF250X, since the rear wheel is picking its way over debris at exactly the point where a stray branch can reach the sprocket. Accossato lists the GCH1 for the CRF250X built between 2007 and 2016, a dedicated chain guide fitted ahead of the rear sprocket to keep the chain on a steady line through ground like that.
Key Features
- Chain guide for the Honda CRF250X, 2007 to 2016
- Accossato code GCH1, mounted ahead of the rear sprocket
- Keeps the chain running on line through rough, cluttered ground
- Black or red
- Same part also listed for the Honda CRF250R, CRF450R and CRF450X
- Accossato also lists rear axle blocks with or without an adjusting screw for this bike
- No German ABE on file; built for off-road and competition riding
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato shapes the GCH1 to the CRF250X's own swingarm and sprocket layout, so it sits ahead of the sprocket in the position this particular frame calls for rather than a generic shape adapted to fit. Black and red are the two finishes on offer, and either sits well against the bike's own colours without changing what the guide does. A guide that has taken a solid knock from a branch or a buried root, and shows it, is worth checking closely and replacing if it no longer sits flush against the swingarm.
Picking a Path Through Fallen Branches
Trail sections cluttered with deadfall slow a CRF250X down to walking pace in places, and that slow, picking progress puts the rear wheel directly over whatever is lying across the path, branches included. Unlike a clean rock, a branch can catch at an angle and get driven toward the sprocket as the wheel rolls over it, and that is precisely the kind of contact a chain guide is meant to intercept before it reaches the chain itself. Riders who spend a lot of time on overgrown or storm-damaged trails get more use out of this part than most, simply because the ground gives the chain more chances to be pushed somewhere it should not go. Checking the guide after a particularly cluttered ride, the same way the chain itself gets checked, is worth doing before heading out again.
Fitment and Compatibility
On its own application list, Accossato limits the GCH1 to the CRF250X built across 2007 to 2016, so the first thing worth doing before ordering is lining that window up against the year on your own frame. A handful of other Honda off-roaders, the CRF250R, the CRF450R and the CRF450X among them, take the same guide, which is useful to know if a second bike joins the shed later. The rear axle blocks for this bike come in two versions, one with its own adjusting screw and one that follows the stock method, and either pairs naturally with the guide for owners working through the whole chain line in one go.
Road Approval
Accossato lists no German ABE for the GCH1, so the part is intended for off-road and competition use rather than for use on public roads.
