DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of KTM 1290 Super Adventure owners leave the tarmac behind, and on the 2015 and 2016 bike that often means gravel tracks, dusty forest roads and the odd muddy crossing. The AGPA29 rear pad in Off-road sintered form, code STMX, is Accossato's compound for riders who spend time on loose ground. At the rear of a heavy adventure bike, the brake is a key tool for controlling speed on descents where the front would lock too easily.
Key Features
- STMX version of the AGPA29 rear pad (AGPA29STMX)
- For the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, 2015 and 2016
- Accossato's compound for off-road riders
- Made for dirt, dust, sand and mud
- Useful for controlling speed on loose descents
- One box for the rear caliper
- Not covered by an ABE; for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato describes STMX simply as its compound for off-road riders. We do not stretch that claim, but it does tell you where the pad is meant to work: on bikes that leave the tarmac. As with the rest of the range, the maker says the pad is designed to keep heat down, reduce fade and wear slowly. The friction face is bonded to the usual AGPA29 plate, so the caliper needs no changes to accept it.
Gravel, Dust and River Crossings
On a steep gravel descent, riders of big adventure bikes often lean on the rear brake to hold speed while keeping the front light and steerable. That calls for a rear pad that keeps its bite even when the disc is covered in dust or splashed with muddy water. After a river crossing, drag the pedal lightly for a moment to wipe the disc before the next downhill section.
Off-road use also makes cleaning part of the routine. After a dusty day or a muddy trail, rinse the caliper area, check that the pads can still slide freely and look for grit trapped between pad and disc. Clean the piston before retracting it when you change pads, and inspect the disc for scoring. A Super Adventure that has been in sand deserves a close look at its rear brake before the next ride.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGPA29 for the rear of the KTM 1290 Super Adventure in model years 2015 and 2016. At the front, the matching Accossato pad is AGPA96. This AGPA29 is also sold in the OR, ST and EV1 compounds.
Road Approval
This off-road set has no ABE or German approval mark on record with us and is supplied for competition riding.
Scope of Delivery
