DescriptionThe whole story▼
Clay is the quiet enemy of an enduro brake. It arrives as a thin grey paste, works its way into every recess of the rear caliper and then dries hard overnight, so the bike that went into the shed running well comes out with a pedal that feels wooden. For the GasGas EC 250 of 2012 to 2020 Accossato presses the AGPP106 rear pad in its Off-road sintered material, article AGPP106STMX, and aims the mixture squarely at riders whose ground is soft, sticky or flooded. On a two-stroke enduro in winter that describes almost every outing.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the GasGas EC 250, model years 2012 to 2020
- Article AGPP106STMX: the AGPP106 plate with the STMX material
- Accossato points the mixture at riders working away from tarmac
- For clay, mud and standing water rather than for dry pavement
- Covers the XC 250 of 2017 to 2019 as well
- One rear caliper on the bike, one box of pads for the job
- OR and ST press the same plate for other kinds of riding
- No German ABE recorded; supplied for competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato describes this version by naming who should buy it rather than by listing what it does, and that is more honest than it first looks. A rear brake used on soft ground almost never meets a clean disc: there is a film of something between the surfaces at all times, and its recipe changes hour by hour as the ground does. Material developed with that in mind has a different task from material developed for dry pavement, where both faces stay as the last stop left them. The plate is the usual AGPP106 carrier, common to every version of the article, so the caliper gets a pad that already fits and only the friction face is new.
What Clay Does While the Bike Sleeps
Wet clay behaves like a lubricant on the ride and like mortar afterwards. During the descent it fills the gap around the plates and dulls everything, which is why the pedal wants an extra press to clear the faces before a rider trusts it. Once the machine is parked it sets, and a set surface holds the plates away from where they should sit. Hose the rear end down before the mud dries, with a gentle flow rather than a jet, because pressure drives grit past the piston seal where it does lasting harm.
A little more care pays off at the end of a filthy ride. Spin the wheel and listen for the rub of a pad that is not releasing. Clear the mud that collects behind the pedal, since a lever held down a fraction keeps the brake lightly applied all the way home. Look at the disc face for deep scoring, which grit will cause faster than any amount of hard use. And when a set is renewed, put the old plates side by side: uneven wear between the two is a sign that the caliper needs attention, not just fresh friction material.
Fitment and Compatibility
The rear span runs from 2012 to 2020 on the EC 250, with the XC 250 of 2017 to 2019 sharing the article. Machines from 2021 changed at the back and are served by the AGPP80, a separate listing, so establishing the model year comes first. The front of the older EC 250 appears under two numbers, the AGPA29 from 1997 and the AGPA51 for 2000 to 2020, and where a bike has passed through several hands the pad that comes out is a better guide than the registration document. Accossato also catalogues a disc for the model, the DK018.
Road Approval
An ABE for the AGPP106STMX is not among our documents and no German test report exists here, so the pads go out for off-road and competition riding.
Scope of Delivery
A box with two AGPP106 pads in the Off-road sintered material, the set for the rear caliper of this EC 250.
