DescriptionThe whole story▼
Green lanes are the reason a lot of people buy a Caballero 500 in the first place. The Fantic is light enough to pick up, narrow enough for a rutted byway and civilised enough to ride home on afterwards, which makes an afternoon of unsurfaced tracks a realistic plan rather than an expedition. For the rear of the bike in 2017 and from 2022 to 2023, Accossato presses the AGPP91 in its Off-road sintered material, article AGPP91STMX, the mixture the company puts forward for riders who leave the tarmac.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Fantic Caballero 500, 2017 and 2022 to 2023
- Article AGPP91STMX: the AGPP91 plate with Accossato's off-road material
- Named by the factory as its mixture for riding away from the road
- For mud, dust, sand and water between the friction faces
- Listed for both the first bike and the later trim levels
- One rear caliper, so a single box finishes the wheel
- OR and ST cover the same plate for road-based use
- No German ABE documented; a competition part
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato aims this material at a single audience and says so directly. Riding off the tarmac puts things between pad and disc that a road surface never offers, and it does so continuously rather than once in a while: wet clay, dry dust, sand and water each change the relationship between the two faces. A mixture developed for that work has to keep answering while the surfaces are being scrubbed clean and dirtied again with every turn of the wheel. The plate is the common AGPP91 carrier used by all three versions, so nothing about the mounting alters when the surface is chosen.
A Day of Green Lanes
The rear brake does most of the work on a loose descent. With a foot hovering over the pedal, the rider can hold the back wheel just short of locking and let it drag the bike down a rutted slope while the front stays free to steer. It is the opposite of road technique and it takes practice, particularly on a bike as road-biased as this one. Between those descents come fords, puddles of unknown depth and long stretches of clay that pack into every space around the caliper.
What happens afterwards decides how long the parts last. Rinse with a gentle flow rather than a pressure washer, which drives grit past the seals and into places it will never leave. Work the pedal a few times while the water runs so the faces clean themselves, then ride the bike gently until the brake is dry and answers normally. Look for stones wedged at the edge of the pad, check that the caliper still slides, and clean the pivot before it stiffens. Mud left to dry overnight is far harder to remove than mud dealt with the same evening.
Fitment and Compatibility
The rear listing reaches across the whole history of the model. It names the 2017 Caballero 500 and, from the second generation, the Explorer, Rally and Scrambler of 2022 and 2023, the Flat Track, Deluxe and Anniversary of 2023, and the Six Days of 2022; the seasons between the two groups are not covered. The front of the bike is served by two different articles depending on age, the AGPA177 for 2017 and the AGPA184 for the later machines. Accossato lists no disc for the Caballero 500, and a single box fills the rear caliper.
Road Approval
Nothing resembling an ABE or a German test report exists here for the AGPP91STMX. We supply the pads for competition and for riding away from public roads.
Scope of Delivery
