DescriptionThe whole story▼
Rallies end in fields, and fields in April end in mud. A Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special ridden to one of those weekends will spend part of it on a surface that has nothing to do with tarmac, and the same goes for any owner who takes an unsurfaced lane because it looks more interesting than the main road. Accossato's Off-road sintered material on the AGPP91 rear pad is the company's compound for riders who go off road, and the Special is listed for 2018 and 2019.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special in the STMX material, article AGPP91STMX
- Accossato's mixture for use away from sealed roads
- Model years 2018 and 2019
- For mud, wet grass, dust and the grit that follows a bike home
- One box of two pads completes the rear caliper
- Road materials on the same plate are OR and ST
- Clean the rear brake after a muddy weekend and check both pads
- No German ABE on file; competition and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The line Accossato gives for the STMX version is short and names the rider rather than the material: this is the mixture for people who leave the road. The conditions do the explaining. Mud holds water and grit against the pad for hours, a wet field lets the disc cool between applications in a way no circuit does, and the whole assembly is scoured by whatever the rear tyre picks up. A compound made for that has different priorities from one made for a warm dry disc. The plate is the standard AGPP91, identical to the road versions, so the pad goes into the rear caliper of a Scrambler 1100 Special without adjustment, two to a box.
Mud in the Field Car Park
The tricky part of a wet rally weekend is rarely the riding; it is getting out of the parking field on Sunday afternoon with a hundred other bikes trying to do the same. Wet grass over soft ground offers a road tyre nothing, the Scrambler 1100 Special is heavy enough to dig in, and the rider is paddling with both feet while trying to keep the machine straight. The rear brake is the only one that can be used at all in that situation, and it gets used repeatedly with the pads full of the same mud the tyre is throwing. Then comes the ride home, when the brake has to work properly again on tarmac at speed. Deal with it the same evening if you can. Wash the mud out before it sets, keep the jet away from the caliper seals, and let everything dry before the cover goes on. A dragging pedal after a muddy day usually means grit behind a pad rather than anything expensive.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Scrambler 1100 Special of 2018 and 2019, Accossato gives the AGPP91 as the rear pad, and the off-road material sits on the same carrier as the others. A single box fills the rear caliper. The front wheel of the Special takes the AGPA177, in a road or a racing compound to suit, and the discs in the catalogue for this machine are the DK008 and the DKS053. Later Scrambler models are listed elsewhere.
Road Approval
We hold no German ABE for this article and nothing in its place, so the pads are sold for competition and for use away from public roads.
