DescriptionThe whole story▼
Not every dirt road is a challenge; some are simply the way to somewhere worth reaching, a hut above the treeline or a slipway at the end of a track. A Multistrada 1260 S D-Air will do that sort of thing at a sensible pace, and the rear brake does most of the work while it happens. Off-road sintered is the material Accossato presses for riders who leave the asphalt, and AGPA29STMX puts it on the AGPA29 rear pad for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Ducati Multistrada 1260 S D-Air, 2018 and 2019
- AGPA29STMX: the AGPA29 plate with Accossato's dirt compound
- Made by the company for riding away from sealed surfaces
- For grit, dust and mud rather than for the daily commute
- One rear caliper, so a single box completes the change
- Two pads to the box, the set that caliper needs
- OR, ST and EV1 carry the same plate for other conditions
- No German ABE on record; competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato defines this compound by where it is used rather than by what is in it, and that is the honest way to read the name. Loose ground puts material between pad and disc that has no business being there, and it keeps doing so for as long as the surface lasts. A pad meant for that is solving a different problem from one meant for clean tarmac in the rain. The AGPA29 plate is the same one used by every other version of the article, so nothing about the fitting changes when the material does.
Unsurfaced Passes and What They Leave Behind
A track climbing to a col in July is dry, pale and full of small stones, and every vehicle that passes lifts a cloud of it. The rear brake is the one being feathered all the way up and all the way down, because the front is busy keeping a heavy bike pointed where the rider is looking. By the time the Multistrada 1260 S D-Air is back on asphalt there is a fine grey layer on the disc, inside the caliper and across the whole back of the machine, and it has been ground between the friction faces the entire way.
Riding of that kind deserves a clean-up rather than a wipe. Rinse the back of the bike gently and let the caliper drain before it is stored. Look over the disc for scoring while it is still wet, when marks show most clearly. Check what is left of the friction material more often than a road rider would. And when a set is replaced, clean around the piston first, then work the pedal until it is solid before the bike rolls off the stand.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's rear listing for the Multistrada 1260 S D-Air covers 2018 and 2019, the two years of the airbag version. One caliper, one box, and the axle is finished. The front pad for the same machine over the same period is the AGPA106, which needs two boxes because of the twin calipers. There is no Accossato disc for this model. A 1260 without the airbag equipment has its own entry, so order against the years quoted here.
Road Approval
This article came to us with no ABE and no German test certificate, so it goes out as a competition part. On a machine that also sees public roads, that distinction is worth reading twice.
Scope of Delivery
One box holding two AGPA29 pads in the Off-road sintered material, the full set for the rear caliper of this D-Air.
