DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 1260 S is the road-going Multistrada, but nobody seems to have told its owners, and the white gravel roads of southern Europe collect a fair number of them each summer. Off-road sintered is the material Accossato presses for riders who leave the tarmac, and article AGPA29STMX brings it to the AGPA29 rear pad of this model. Read the name as a description of the working environment rather than a claim about the machine: dirt, dust and loose stones rather than motorway miles. The listing runs from 2018 to 2021.
Key Features
- Rear pads for the Ducati Multistrada 1260 S, 2018 to 2021
- Article AGPA29STMX: the AGPA29 plate with Accossato's dirt material
- Pressed by Accossato for riders who spend time away from tarmac
- Aimed at dust, mud and loose surfaces rather than at commuting
- A single rear caliper, so one box completes the change
- Two pads per box, the set for that caliper
- The same plate is also pressed in OR, ST and EV1
- No German ABE on record; supplied for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
What Accossato says about this material is a statement of purpose rather than a specification: it is the compound the firm makes for riders who go off the road. Everything about the way it is used follows from that. Dirt does not stay outside a brake. It arrives between pad and disc and becomes part of the mechanism for as long as the ride lasts, and a material meant for that is doing a different job from one meant for clean asphalt. The AGPA29 plate underneath is the one every version of the article uses, so a rider who keeps two sets can swap them at the end of a dusty week.
Dust, Grit and the Road That Runs Out
A gravel road behaves nothing like tarmac under a brake. The surface moves, the rear wheel locks and releases with little warning, and most riders end up using the pedal in a deliberate, held way rather than in short firm applications. Dust gets everywhere. It settles on the disc between corners, works into the caliper and is still there when the track turns back into asphalt an hour later. A Multistrada 1260 S is heavier than anything designed for this, which only makes the foot more important.
Cleaning is part of the ride. Rinse the back end when you get home, from a distance rather than with a pressure lance held close, and let the water drain out of the caliper before the bike is stored. Look over the disc for scoring after a gritty day. Clean around the piston before pushing it back at the next change, inspect what is left of the friction material more often than road miles would demand, and press the pedal until it is solid before setting off again.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGPA29 at the rear of the Multistrada 1260 S from 2018 to 2021, which takes in the Pikes Peak of 2018 and 2019 and the Grand Tour of 2020. One caliper, one box. The front of the same bike takes the AGPA106, listed only as far as 2020. Nothing in the Accossato disc range is quoted for this model. The properly dirt-capable member of this family is the Enduro, which is catalogued on its own.
Road Approval
No ABE reached us with this article, and no test certificate either. It is listed for competition and closed-course riding; on a machine that also sees public roads, that is worth knowing before you order.
Scope of Delivery
One box containing two AGPA29 pads in the Off-road sintered material, the set for the single rear caliper of the Multistrada 1260 S.
