DescriptionThe whole story▼
On loose ground the rear brake stops being a brake and becomes a steering control. A boot on the pedal tightens the line through a gravel bend, holds the machine back down a rutted descent while the front wheel is busy finding grip, and brings the back of the bike round on a tight uphill turn. That is the world Accossato developed its dirt compound for, and on the AGPA29 rear pad it is listed as article AGPA29STMX for the Ducati DesertX from 2023 to 2026, the 937 Rally included from 2024.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Ducati DesertX, 2023 to 2026
- AGPA29STMX: the AGPA29 shape in Accossato's Off-road sintered material
- The compound the company makes for riders working in dirt
- Covers the DesertX 937 and, from 2024, the 937 Rally
- Two pads in the box, the set the single rear caliper takes
- The same shape is also pressed in OR, ST and EV1
- Rinse the caliper through after a muddy or sandy day
- No German ABE on record; sold for competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato describes this article in a single phrase: the compound made for riders who go off the road. There is no promise of refinement in that, and none is needed, because the conditions it is meant for are the ones that finish ordinary material in an afternoon. Under the friction layer sits the same AGPA29 plate used for every other version of this pad, so a rider who keeps a second set for dirt weekends is swapping material and leaving the fit exactly as it was.
Turning the Bike with the Rear Wheel
Sand is where the technique shows. The front wheel of a DesertX will not be argued with once it is ploughing, so speed has to come off at the rear, gently and early, with the weight back and the pedal used in small deliberate amounts. Ruts ask for the same thing at lower speed: a steady drag that keeps the machine from running away downhill, held for long enough that material meant for tarmac would be complaining.
The bill for all this arrives at the wash bay. Sand that has been through a brake behaves like grinding paste, mud dries in the gap between pad and disc, and both leave the caliper full of material that will still be there next weekend if nobody rinses it out. Do it while everything is soft, check what is left of both pads while the wheel is out, and give the bike time to drain before it goes back under its cover.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists this pad at the rear of the DesertX 937 from 2023 to 2026 and of the 937 Rally from 2024 to 2026. The rear wheel has one caliper, so a single box is a complete change. No front pad for this machine appears in the range, while the disc programme does include the DK053 and the DKS053 for the model. As always, hold the pad that comes out against the article you are ordering rather than relying on the name of the bike.
Road Approval
Nothing in the way of German paperwork exists for the AGPA29STMX: no ABE, no test report. It is sold as a part for competition and closed-course use.
Scope of Delivery
One box with two AGPA29 pads in the dirt compound, together the set for the rear caliper.
