DescriptionThe whole story▼
Not every owner keeps an R nineT on tarmac. Gravel forest tracks, a rutted lane to a lake, the dusty approach to a rally field: the machine copes, and the brakes come home coated in the evidence. Accossato's answer for that sort of day is the AGPA29 rear pad in its Off-road sintered (STMX) compound, the material the company puts up for riders who leave the surfaced road. It is catalogued for the R nineT from 2014 to 2023 and for the Urban G/S version from 2017.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the BMW R nineT, 2014 to 2023, Urban G/S included from 2017
- AGPA29STMX: the AGPA29 rear plate in Accossato's STMX material
- The manufacturer offers this compound to riders who go off the surfaced road
- For gravel tracks, dusty lanes and unmade approach roads
- Two pads per box, filling the single rear caliper
- The same plate is also available in the OR, ST and EV1 materials
- A clean disc matters here, which is worth remembering after a wet or muddy track
- No German ABE in our files; supplied for competition and circuit use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato builds this pad on the same rear plate as the rest of the group and distinguishes it purely by what is bonded to the face. The catalogue entry is plain about the intended customer: this is the mixture for riding away from tarmac. Grit, dust and water make a rear brake work in a way it never does on a main road, since every particle that reaches the disc joins in, and a material chosen with that in mind is a more sensible purchase than one drawn for smooth surfaces. High stopping power is what Accossato claims for its friction range as a whole. Two pads in the box serve the one caliper the R nineT carries at the back.
Dust, Water and the Hose Afterwards
A day on unmade roads finishes in the yard with a hose in your hand, and that is where a rear brake can be spoiled. Rinse gently rather than blasting a jet at the caliper, keep detergents and wheel cleaners off the friction surfaces, and let the wheel spin dry before the bike goes away. If the disc has been through deep water, a few gentle applications on the way home clear it. The morning after a dusty ride is the right time to look at how much material is left, because grit takes a pad down faster than a week of commuting. Check also that nothing has lodged between the pad and the disc, and give the caliper body a wipe so the pistons are not dragged back through a paste of dried mud.
Fitment and Compatibility
The rear plate covers the R nineT from 2014 to 2023, the Urban G/S variant of 2017 onwards included. At the front the two versions part company: the original roadster is served by the AGPA177 and the Urban G/S by the AGPA96, and Accossato's front disc numbers for the family are the DK006 and the DK007. A single caliper works the rear disc, so one box completes the change. Riders who stay on tarmac may prefer one of the other three materials on this plate; the choice depends on where the bike is ridden, not on which one is stronger.
Road Approval
We have received neither a German ABE nor a test certificate for this article, so nothing documents it for use on the public road. The AGPA29STMX is sold for competition and for closed circuits.
Scope of Delivery
A box containing two Accossato AGPA29 pads in the STMX material, which together make the set for the rear caliper.
