DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sand is a different problem from mud. It runs rather than sticks, it reaches everywhere the wind does, and it turns a brake into a grinding paste if it is left sitting there. A Tuareg 660 Rally on a long piste day works its rear brake in that stuff for hours. Accossato's Off-road sintered (STMX) compound is the mix the company builds for riders who spend their time on this ground, and this article puts it on the AGPP91 rear pad for the Aprilia Tuareg 660 Rally of 2025.
Key Features
- Rear brake pads for the Aprilia Tuareg 660 Rally, 2025
- STMX compound, Accossato's mix for riding away from the road
- Two pads to a box, one rear caliper's worth
- Made for riders on loose ground rather than on asphalt
- Accossato has no front pad and no disc in its list for the Rally
- Fits the original rear caliper
- Two road compounds exist on the same carrier for owners who stay on tarmac
- No German ABE or test mark documented; off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's description of this compound is one line: the mix for riders who go off the road. On a bike like this the line does most of the explaining. Sand and dust get between pad and disc, a water crossing cools a hot brake in a second, and none of it resembles what a road compound is asked to survive. It is the version of the AGPP91 that matches the purpose the Tuareg 660 Rally was built for.
A Day on the Piste
Long open tracks encourage speed, and speed on sand is managed mostly with the rear. A gentle, early press keeps the bike straight while the front wheel floats across the surface; a sudden one steps the back out, which is sometimes what the rider wants and sometimes not. On a machine carrying fuel and water for a whole day the difference between the two is small, so the pedal has to be something the foot can meter finely.
The evening routine is part of the ride. Brush the dust off the caliper before any water touches it, then rinse gently rather than driving grit further in, and let the brake dry with the bike moving instead of standing. On any event running over several days, carry a second set of pads: they weigh almost nothing, and there is no shop at a bivouac.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's data for the Tuareg 660 Rally covers the 2025 model year and this rear pad alone; the range holds no front pad and no disc for this machine. A single caliper works the rear wheel, so one box completes the change. Fit the pads as a pair, and check that the caliper still moves freely before the next day out, because sand has a way of stiffening everything it touches.
Road Approval
There is no ABE and no test mark on file for this compound, and it is supplied for off-road riding and competition.
Scope of Delivery
