DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 400 was the smallest engine in the Scrambler range, a friendly bike for newer riders, often young ones taking their first steps beyond a learner machine. When a young rider books a first circuit day, a parent often comes along as driver, helper and second pair of eyes. For the Scrambler 400, Accossato's application list has a single entry, for 2018, and gives the FC105: a quick-release fuel tank cap machined entirely from aluminium on CNC equipment, closed by a pawl with a pin in one of six colours.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Ducati Scrambler 400, listed for 2018
- Entirely CNC-machined aluminium
- Quick-closing pawl for fast opening and closing
- Pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Pawl sold separately as a spare
- Confirm your version on Accossato's application list
- No German ABE documented; for the circuit
Construction and Material Quality
The FC105 is made entirely of aluminium, cut on CNC machines, and Accossato describes it as robust and durable. Its design is new. The quick-closing pawl lets the tank of the Scrambler 400 be opened and closed quickly, and the pin on that pawl is where a young owner can add a colour of their choice, from six. If the pawl is damaged, Accossato sells it on its own.
A Parent in the Paddock
For a teenager or young adult on a first track day, there is a lot to take in: flags, the briefing, the pit-lane rules, the pace of the other riders. A parent in the paddock can take some of that load, but the aim should be for the young rider to learn the routines rather than watch them. Fuel is a good place to start. Show them once how it is done on the Scrambler 400: engine off, bike upright, can opened away from the bike, a funnel in the neck, the level watched instead of the can, the pawl closed and checked by hand. Then let them do it themselves under your eye, and the next time on their own. Explain the reasons as well: why nobody smokes near the can, why spills are wiped up at once, why a cap that is not fully shut is a reason not to go out. Habits learned like this last far longer than any single track day.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's application list the Scrambler 400 appears once, with the FC105, for 2018. Other small Scrambler versions are listed under their own names, so check which name your registration papers use before ordering. We list the same cap for the Scrambler 1100 and the DesertX as well. Fit it with a cold engine and the bike parked, seat the seal evenly and check the rim for dampness after the first fill.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE or expert report for the FC105, so we sell it for track use only. The Scrambler 400's original cap normally opens with the ignition key and remains the cap for public roads; a switch there is not straightforward.
