DescriptionThe whole story▼
Few moments ask more of a brake system than the end of a long straight on an S 1000 RR. The bike arrives at a speed few roads ever see, the rider squeezes hard, and the heat generated in discs and pads spreads into the calipers and the fluid. Lap after lap, that heat builds up. The reservoir on the handlebar is where the condition of that fluid can be judged. For the S 1000 RR from 2009 to 2018, Accossato makes the TS005, a cap for this front brake fluid reservoir, machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised.
Key Features
- Cap for the front brake fluid reservoir of the BMW S 1000 RR, 2009 to 2018
- Made for the original reservoir, according to Accossato
- Aluminium, shaped on CNC machines, anodised finish
- Colours: black, silver, red, blue, green, orange, gold
- Accossato's FP002 oil filler cap listed for the same bike
- Fitment to be checked on Accossato's application list
- No German ABE on file; intended for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the TS005 from aluminium and anodises it, which gives it one of seven colours: black, silver, red, blue, green, orange or gold. It is designed for the original front reservoirs of the motorcycles on Accossato's list, so on the S 1000 RR the master cylinder and everything below it stay standard. Whenever the cap is changed, the original diaphragm or seal underneath deserves an inspection too, and it should be replaced if it has become stiff or cracked.
At the End of the Main Straight
On a circuit, brake fluid has two jobs. It transmits the force of the rider's hand, and it has to cope with heat without boiling. Fresh fluid manages both well. Old fluid has absorbed moisture over months and years, which lowers its boiling point, so a hard session can take it to its limit sooner than expected. The first warning is usually a lever that creeps closer to the bar as the laps go by. Riders who take an S 1000 RR on track therefore renew the fluid at the start of the season, or earlier if the owner's manual asks for it, instead of waiting for the interval to run out. Before every event they also look at the reservoir: with it held level, the fluid should be between the marks and light in colour, not dark. If the TS005 goes on in the paddock, do it before the engine is started for the day, with a cloth over tank and fairing, because brake fluid damages paint; any drop is rinsed off with water immediately. Keep the reservoir open only briefly, fasten the cap gently and pump the lever a few times on the stand. A firm lever before the pit exit is the only acceptable result.
Fitment and Compatibility
The TS005 is given on Accossato's list for the S 1000 RR of 2009 to 2018, as the cap of the original front reservoir. Inter-Pace also catalogues the same cap for the S 1000 R, the Honda CBR 1000 RR and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX. Accossato's second cap for this BMW is the FP002 oil filler cap, which can be ordered in the same colour. Check your S 1000 RR against the application list before you order, and take particular care if the front master cylinder has been replaced with a different one, as is common on bikes prepared for the track.
Road Approval
Since neither an ABE nor any other approval document for this reservoir cap exists in our records, we sell it for competition and circuit use.
