Before the first long ride of the year, many S 1000 R owners book the bike in for the jobs they would rather not do themselves, and renewing the brake fluid is high on that list. A naked bike with this much performance asks a lot of its front brake, and the fluid in the handlebar reservoir ages whether the bike is ridden or not. The appointment is also a good moment to change the cap. Accossato lists the TS005, an aluminium front brake fluid reservoir cap, CNC-machined and anodised, for the S 1000 R of 2014 to 2018.

Construction and Material Quality
The TS005 is cut from aluminium on CNC machines and gets its colour in the anodising process: red, blue, black, silver, gold, orange or green. Accossato intends it for the original front reservoir of the bikes on its list, so on the S 1000 R the master cylinder, lines and calipers stay exactly as BMW fitted them, and only the top of the reservoir changes. Beneath the old cap sits the original diaphragm or seal. Look at it closely during the swap and renew it if it has hardened, split or lost its shape.
Fresh Fluid, New Cap, One Appointment
Brake fluid takes up moisture from the air over time, and moisture lowers the temperature at which it boils. That is why the owner's manual of the S 1000 R sets an interval for renewing it, and why the interval applies even to a bike that spent the winter in a heated garage. When you book the job, mention that you would like the TS005 fitted at the same time. The reservoir has to be opened anyway, so the new cap goes on once, while the workshop already has the fresh fluid, the cloths and the covers out. If you would rather fit it yourself later, choose a dry day. Turn the handlebar until the reservoir sits level, lay a cloth over the tank and any painted parts nearby, and keep the reservoir open for as short a time as you can. The level should sit between the marks. Close the cap with a gentle hand rather than force, and wash any drop that lands on paint off with water at once. Then pull the lever several times while the bike stands still. Only when it feels as firm as before is the S 1000 R ready to roll.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list gives the TS005 for the S 1000 R with the years 2014 to 2018, as a cap for the original front reservoir. At Inter-Pace the same part is also listed for the S 1000 RR, the Honda CBR 600 RR and the Kawasaki GTR 1400. For the S 1000 R there is a second Accossato cap as well, the FP002 for the oil filler, and every colour of the TS005 is also offered for it. As with any reservoir cap, match your bike against the application list before ordering, especially if the front brake master cylinder has been changed.
Road Approval
No ABE or comparable test document for the TS005 is available to us, so we list it as a part for circuit and competition riding.
