DescriptionThe whole story▼
The original MT-09 introduced Yamaha's cross-plane triple to the naked class and quickly became a favourite for riders who enjoyed wheelies and stoppies a little more than their insurer might like, a habit that occasionally ends with the front wheel coming down harder than planned. Accossato's front fork protection has been offered for this bike under two separate codes as the range grew, and the earliest, the PF040, covers the first MT-09 of 2013 to 2016.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the Yamaha MT-09, 2013 to 2016
- Accossato PF040, one protector for each side
- Aluminium and plastic, finished in black
- Spacers, screws and remaining mounting parts in the kit, according to Accossato
- PP080 rear sliders and TP063 crash pads also listed for this bike
- Designed to take the first contact if a landing goes wrong
- Same pair listed for the MT-09 SP, Tracer 900, Tracer 900 GT and XSR900
- No German ABE on file; for racing and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato builds the PF040 from aluminium and plastic and finishes both protectors in black, one for each side of the bike's front wheel. The kit, as the maker describes it, holds the spacers, screws and other parts needed for mounting. If a stunt attempted on the MT-09 goes wrong and the front wheel comes down at an angle, or the bike slides out entirely, the sliders are there to meet the ground first, reducing what the fork and the axle area otherwise take. They are not meant to survive every impact unmarked, and a slider that has ground through should be exchanged.
When a Wheelie Comes Down Wrong
A triple with this engine's pull makes lifting the front wheel almost too easy, and plenty of owners practise wheelies and stoppies in empty car parks or on quiet back roads. The risk is rarely in holding the wheelie itself but in bringing it back down: too much throttle still on, and the front slaps the tarmac hard enough to unsettle the whole bike; too little weight transferred forward in time, and a stoppie drops the front wheel into a stutter that can tuck under braking. Both mistakes can end with the MT-09 sliding along the ground rather than simply stopping. The sliders exist for that moment, taking the first contact so the fork and the axle area are spared some of it. After any such off, check the sliders, the fork seals and the levers before riding again, and remember that public roads carry rules that a private car park does not.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the PF040 for the MT-09 across 2013 to 2016, and our listing follows those years. The newer PF055 sliders cover later MT-09s, and the PP080 rear sliders along with the TP063 and TP097 crash pads are also listed for this bike. In our shop, the PF040 is additionally catalogued for the MT-09 SP, the Tracer 900, the Tracer 900 GT and the XSR900. Compare your MT-09 against the application list before ordering, or ask us to check it.
Road Approval
We hold no ABE or other test document for the PF040, so it is supplied for racing and competition use.
