DescriptionThe whole story▼
The S 1000 XR put the four-cylinder engine of BMW's S 1000 family into a tall, upright machine built for fast touring. It is at home on mountain passes, where it covers the climb quickly and then stops at the top, where everyone takes a photo. Those stops are where tall bikes tend to fall: the lay-by slopes, the gravel is loose and a short leg finds nothing beneath it. The PF057 front axle sliders appear on Accossato's list for the S 1000 XR of 2015 to 2019; they come as a black pair made of aluminium and plastic.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the BMW S 1000 XR, 2015 to 2019
- Accossato code PF057, black
- Made of aluminium combined with plastic
- Two protectors, one for each side
- Accossato includes spacers, screws and all other fitting parts
- Can reduce damage around the fork ends if the bike falls or slides
- Pairs with the PP001 rear axle sliders and TP083 crash pads for the same bike
- No German ABE documented; for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
Two protectors, both black, make up the PF057, and each is built from aluminium in combination with plastic. Accossato states that the kit contains the spacers and screws plus the other parts required to mount them. For the S 1000 XR the manufacturer does not describe the exact position, and we do not guess. The idea behind the pair is straightforward: if the bike falls or slides, these should make contact before the fork and the front axle do, and they are far cheaper to replace than either.
Photo Stop at the Top of the Pass
Pass summits are rarely level. The car park beside the café slopes towards the valley, the tarmac frays into gravel at the edges and the spaces fill up with bikes and camper vans. On a machine as tall as the S 1000 XR, the rider has to judge where the foot will land before coming to a halt. Put it into a dip or onto loose stones and the bike leans beyond the point where it can be held, usually towards the lower side. A few habits help. Park pointing uphill and leave it in first gear, so it cannot roll forward off the stand, and set the stand on firm ground or a flat stone. If the XR does go over, check the fork ends, the sliders and their screws before starting the descent. A bent protector should be replaced; a damaged fork belongs in a workshop.
Fitment and Compatibility
The PF057 is listed for the S 1000 XR from 2015 to 2019. For the same bike Accossato offers the PP001 rear axle sliders and the TP083 crash pads, both given for 2015 to 2018. Inter-Pace also lists the PF057 for the R 1250 RS and the F 900 XR. After fitting, spin the front wheel and turn the bars fully in both directions: nothing may contact the calipers, discs or mudguard. Tighten all screws to the manual's values.
Road Approval
No ABE and no test documents are available to us for this set, so it is sold for motorsport and competition.
