DescriptionThe whole story▼
When the front discs of a Yamaha MT-07 reach their limit, the pads are usually not far behind, and changing both at once saves a second job and a second bedding-in. Accossato's DKS073 is a floating front disc listed for the MT-07 from 2021 to 2023, the bikes built after Yamaha's 2021 update gave the MT-07 larger front discs. Its friction ring spans 298 mm and is 5 mm thick, while the black carrier has a 132 mm bore and five 8.5 mm bolt holes spaced around a 150 mm circle.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Yamaha MT-07 with ABS, 2021 to 2023
- 298 mm by 5 mm, 132 mm centre bore
- Five 8.5 mm fixing holes on a 150 mm hole circle
- Black carrier, riveted friction ring
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc, according to the supplier
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc per order; two are needed for the front wheel
- No German ABE documented; track use
Construction and Material Quality
Two parts make up the DKS073: a black carrier that bolts to the front wheel and a friction ring riveted around it. The rivets hold the ring firmly in the direction of rotation but allow a small float, so it can expand with heat and find its own position between the pads. According to the supplier, the disc is interchangeable with the Yamaha original. Accossato relates the tolerances between ring and carrier to what it has learnt in Moto2, Moto3 and Superbike racing, and it prints the minimum working thickness on every disc it makes.
New Discs, New Pads, Careful First Rides
Fitting new discs against half-worn pads rarely gives a good result. Old pads have worn to the profile of the old discs, so they touch the new rings only in places and the brake feels weak until they have bedded in again. Many mechanics therefore renew pads and discs on the MT-07 together. Before fitting, clean the new discs with brake cleaner and hold them by the edges; a greasy thumbprint on the ring is enough to spoil the first stops. Then bed the parts in. Find a quiet road and make a series of moderate stops from medium speed, without coming to a complete halt and without holding the brake on while stationary, so that pad material is laid evenly onto the rings. Let everything cool before asking for hard braking. The brake will grow stronger over the first rides as pads and discs settle.
Fitment and Compatibility
Only the MT-07 of 2021 to 2023, the ABS model, is on Accossato's list for the DKS073. There are two discs on the front wheel and the price is for one, so plan for two DKS073s. Accossato's other disc for this MT-07 is the DK077 from the Elite line, with identical dimensions. Whichever you choose, use the same type on both sides so that the front brake behaves evenly.
Road Approval
No German ABE covers the DKS073, and no type approval is documented. Its place is on closed circuits.
