DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Speed Triple S was the entry point to the updated 1050 range from 2016, and many are ridden all year and looked after by their owners. For those riders, a quick look through the caliper reveals a lot about the brakes without taking anything apart. Accossato lists the DK132 for the Speed Triple 1050 S from 2016 to 2021: a floating front disc with a black carrier and a 320 mm ring, interchangeable with the original disc.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Triumph Speed Triple 1050 S
- Model years 2016 to 2021 on Accossato's list
- 320 mm outer diameter, 150 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thickness
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
- Black carrier
- Minimum thickness marked on the disc
- Priced per disc; the S has two front discs
- No German ABE documented; for use on the track
Construction and Material Quality
Inside the DK132's friction ring sits a black carrier, and the rivets between them let the ring float. The ring absorbs the heat of braking and can expand independently, while the carrier keeps a firm connection to the wheel. Accossato points to its background in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 as the source of its expertise, and to an in-depth study of the tolerances and clearance between ring and carrier as the basis of the design.
Looking Through the Caliper
You do not need to remove anything to get a good idea of the state of the front brakes on a Speed Triple S. With the brakes cold, shine a torch into the caliper from above or from the front: you will see the edges of the pads and, on most pads, a groove or step that shows how much friction material remains. When the groove has almost gone, the pads are near the end. Then run a fingertip gently across the friction surface from the inside outwards. A ridge at the outer edge shows how far the pads have worn the ring down.
Fine circular lines are normal; grooves you can clearly feel suggest dirt or pads worn to the backing. Look at both discs, not just the one on the side you usually check, because the two should wear at a similar rate. If one side shows more wear or a different colour, a sticking caliper piston could be the reason, and replacing the disc without freeing the piston would only repeat the problem.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK132 for the Speed Triple 1050 S with ABS from 2016 to 2021, where it replaces an original front disc. The S has two front discs and each order supplies one. The Speed Triple 1050 R appears on the same list. Among the levers Accossato lists for the Speed Triple S are the EDF099 and the EST333P.
Road Approval
The DK132 comes with no German ABE and no type approval on record. It is meant for closed circuits.
