DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Z900RS Cafe takes Kawasaki's retro four and adds a small cowl around the headlight, a lower handlebar and a seat shaped for the café-racer silhouette. The bike leans its rider a touch further forward, and at the front wheel two discs share the braking. When one of them has reached the end of its life, the other is rarely far behind. Accossato lists its DK236 for the Z900RS Cafe from 2018 to 2021: a floating Elite disc, as thick as the original, on a black carrier.
Key Features
- Floating Elite front disc for the Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe, 2018 to 2021
- Same thickness as the original disc: 5 mm
- 300 mm outer diameter with a 142 mm inner diameter
- Rivets stamped with the Accossato logo
- Black carrier
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- One disc per order, two fitted at the front of the Cafe
- For racetrack use, no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato describes the DK236 as an Elite disc whose thickness matches the Kawasaki original, which here means 5 mm across the braking face. That face belongs to a separate ring, 300 mm across, which is joined by logo-stamped rivets to a carrier in black with a 142 mm centre opening. According to Accossato, the combination of design and chosen raw material gives its discs their strong braking effect, while a restrained weight is meant to help the motorcycle steer. The minimum working thickness is printed on the disc, so its wear can later be read against a fixed figure instead of an estimate.
Renewing Both Sides Together
On a twin-disc front end each disc works with its own caliper, and in theory the two wear at the same rate. In practice they seldom do. A caliper piston that has turned a little sticky, a pad that has picked up a trace of oil, or simply an older disc beside a newer one can make one side do more of the work than the other. The rider may only notice a brake that feels less crisp than it used to.
For that reason it makes sense to renew both discs on the Z900RS Cafe at the same time and to fit new pads on both sides as well. Old pads have worn to the shape of the old rings, with their lip and fine grooves, and they will not sit flat against a fresh surface. While the calipers are off, clean the pistons with brake cleaner, check that each one moves smoothly and look at the dust seals. Once everything is back together, bed the new pads in with a series of moderate stops before asking for full power.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list names the Z900RS Cafe for the years 2018 to 2021; later Cafe models are not included in this entry. The DK236 replaces one of the two original front discs, and the price is for a single disc. The same part is listed for the standard Z900RS, where its run extends to 2025. Before fitting, measure the disc on your bike and compare diameter and thickness with the figures given here.
Road Approval
For the DK236 there is no German ABE on file and no documented type approval; we sell it for circuit use.
Scope of Delivery
