DescriptionThe whole story▼
Kawasaki built the Z900RS as a thoroughly modern four-cylinder dressed in the lines of its Z1 from the 1970s, and plenty of owners ride theirs whatever the forecast says. On a wet morning the front brake behaves a little differently: the first squeeze has to clear a film of water from the discs before the pads grip properly. For the front wheel of the Z900RS from 2018 to 2025, Accossato offers the DK236, a floating disc from its Elite line that keeps the thickness of the original part and sits on a black carrier.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Kawasaki Z900RS, 2018 to 2025
- Accossato Elite line, logo on every rivet
- 300 mm outside and 142 mm inside diameter
- 5 mm thick, matching the original disc
- Carrier finished in black
- Minimum working thickness marked on the disc
- Sold singly; the Z900RS needs two for the front wheel
- No German ABE on record, intended for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The DK236 is built in two parts with two different jobs. Its outer ring, 300 mm in diameter and 5 mm thick, is the surface the pads work on; the black inner carrier, open to 142 mm at the centre, is what bolts to the wheel. Rivets join the two, and because the ring is not fixed rigidly, it can grow slightly as it heats without dragging the carrier with it. On Elite discs every rivet head carries the company's logo. Accossato says the clearances between ring and carrier were studied in depth, knowledge it traces back to Superbike racing and the Moto2 and Moto3 classes.
When the Discs Are Wet
Water on a brake disc is not dangerous in itself, but it changes the timing. On the first application after a downpour or a wash, the pads glide across a thin layer of water for a moment before they reach bare metal, and the Z900RS slows a fraction later than you expect. Riders who know this give the lever a light squeeze well before the first real stop, just enough to wipe the rings dry, and they repeat it after splashing through standing water on a country lane.
Washing the bike deserves a little care as well. Rinse the wheels last, keep sprays for chrome and paint well away from the front end, and never let tyre dressing near the discs. A sponge that has just been over a greasy engine can leave a trace on the ring that the pads cannot scrub off quickly. If the brake feels vague after a wash, wipe both discs with brake cleaner and a lint-free cloth before you ride on. Left wet overnight, a disc also grows a thin orange film. That film is harmless and vanishes after a few stops; pitting that is still there after a week of riding is another matter and a reason to inspect the ring closely.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK236 for the Z900RS from 2018 to 2025 as a replacement for one of the original front discs, with the same thickness as the Kawasaki part. The front wheel of the Z900RS carries two discs, and the price shown covers one of them, so renewing both sides means ordering two. Hold the old disc against the figures above before fitting, and tighten the disc bolts to the value in Kawasaki's workshop manual.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no type approval are documented for the DK236, so we offer it for use on closed tracks and in competition.
