DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Kawasaki Z900 is the kind of bike that piles up distance: commuting in the week, a long ride at the weekend, a trip abroad in summer. Brake discs are wear parts, and on a Z900 used like that they reach their limit sooner than many owners expect. Accossato's DK236 is an Elite line floating front disc for the Z900, listed from 2017 to 2019 and for 2022. It is 300 mm across with a 142 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thick like the original disc, and has a black carrier.
Key Features
- Elite floating front disc for the Kawasaki Z900, 2017 to 2019 and 2022
- Also listed for the 2022 Z900 Performance
- 300 mm outer diameter, 142 mm inner diameter
- 5 mm thick, as the original disc, according to the supplier
- Black carrier; Accossato logo on the rivets
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
- Sold as one disc; the Z900 has two at the front
- No German ABE on record; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Inside the DK236, a black carrier bolts to the wheel, and around it the braking ring floats on rivets that carry the Accossato logo. The two parts can move slightly against each other, so that the ring can expand when hot without warping the carrier. As an Elite disc, it keeps the original thickness of 5 mm and measures 300 mm by 142 mm. Accossato puts the effective braking of its discs down to their design, a careful selection of raw materials and a close study of the clearance between carrier and ring, and it also mentions the low weight that helps steering.
Distance, Wear and a Service Record
Accossato advises fitting new discs roughly every thirty to forty thousand kilometres, or earlier if they are worn below the printed minimum, scored or cracked. On a Z900 that covers long distances each year, that point can arrive within a few seasons, and, as Accossato warns, a disc worn too far may fail when it is heavily loaded. The simplest defence is a record. Note the mileage whenever you change pads or discs, and measure the discs at every service; the numbers show how quickly your riding wears them.
Riding style makes a big difference. Hard stops from high speed, heavy braking in the mountains and a lot of city traffic wear discs faster than steady touring. A written log also helps when you sell the bike, because a buyer can see when the brakes were last renewed. When the time comes, change both front discs of the Z900 together, fit new pads and bed them in carefully.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK236 for the Kawasaki Z900 from 2017 to 2019 and for 2022, the latter including the Z900 Performance; the years 2020 and 2021 are not on its list. The Z900 has two front discs, and the price here is for one, so a complete change takes two. Accossato's EDF021 brake lever and ESK750 clutch lever are also listed for the Z900.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for this DK236, and there is no type approval. We sell it for use on the circuit.
Scope of Delivery
