DescriptionThe whole story▼
The XDiavel Dark is finished almost entirely in black, and owners of a bike like that tend to keep it spotless. Washing does a motorcycle good, but the products that make paint and metal shine are the last thing a brake disc needs. Accossato's DKS053 is a floating front disc listed for the Ducati XDiavel Dark from 2020 to 2023. It has a 320 mm friction ring, 5.5 mm thick, on a black carrier that suits the bike, and the carrier fixes to the wheel through five 8.5 mm holes on a 90 mm circle.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati XDiavel Dark, 2020–2023
- Friction ring 320 mm across and 5.5 mm thick, carrier bore 72 mm
- Bolt circle 90 mm, five holes of 8.5 mm
- Carrier finished in black
- Interchangeable with the original, as the supplier states
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Price per disc; two are fitted at the front
- No German ABE documented; for closed circuits
Construction and Material Quality
In the DKS053, carrier and friction ring are separate parts. The black carrier bolts to the wheel, and the ring is attached to it by rivets that allow a small amount of movement, so the ring can expand with heat and position itself between the pads without distorting. Accossato's own description stresses two things: that the tolerances and clearance between ring and carrier were studied in depth, and that the company's knowledge of discs comes from the racing classes Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. The dimensions are 320 mm outside, 72 mm at the bore and 5.5 mm through the ring.
Wash Day on a Dark Bike
Many of the products that make a dark bike gleam contain waxes, silicones or oils, and on a brake disc even a thin film of them reduces grip. Tyre shine sprayed near the front wheel, polish carried over on a cloth, or spray wax drifting in the wind can all end up on the friction ring. The first stop afterwards feels weak, and the pads may soak up the contamination for good.
A few habits keep the XDiavel Dark looking right without putting the brakes at risk. Cover the discs with a clean cloth or a plastic bag when you use sprays near the wheels, and put polish on the cloth rather than directly on the bike. Choose a wheel cleaner marked as safe for brake parts, and rinse thoroughly. After washing, dry the discs by riding off slowly and making a few gentle stops. If a disc has been contaminated, clean it with brake cleaner; if the pads have absorbed oil, replace them. Keep a high-pressure jet away from the calipers and rivets, which it can fill with water and dirt.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DKS053 for the XDiavel Dark, which it names X Diavel 1262 Dark, from 2020 to 2023. The bike uses two front discs and each is sold on its own, so plan on two for a complete change. Before fitting, compare the new disc with an original: diameter, bore, thickness and the five holes on the 90 mm circle should all match. Tighten the bolts to the values in Ducati's workshop manual for the XDiavel Dark.
Road Approval
This disc carries no documented German ABE and no type approval, so we list it as a track part.
