DescriptionThe whole story▼
Brake dust on the front wheel of a SuperSport 950 S usually gets washed away without a second thought. It is worth a look before it goes, because its colour and texture say something about the state of discs and pads. For the Ducati SuperSport 950 S, Accossato's list names the DKS053 across 2021 to 2024, a floating front disc whose 320 mm ring is 5.5 mm thick and whose black carrier comes with a published bolt pattern. According to the supplier, it swaps directly for the original disc.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati SuperSport 950 S, listed 2021–2024
- 320 mm outer diameter, 72 mm centre bore, 5.5 mm thick
- Bolt circle 90 mm with five 8.5 mm holes
- Black carrier; ring held by rivets
- Replaces the original disc, according to Accossato
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Two per front wheel, sold one at a time
- No German ABE documented; for the track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
This disc is built in two pieces. The black carrier, with five fixing holes of 8.5 mm arranged on a 90 mm circle, holds a 5.5 mm friction ring on rivets, and the rivets allow the ring a slight float as it heats and cools. That keeps the disc from distorting and lets the ring follow the pads. Accossato says the tolerances and clearance at this joint were worked out with care, based on experience gained from Superbike racing and from the Moto2 and Moto3 categories. The ring measures 320 mm across and the carrier's bore 72 mm.
What the Dust Tells You
Normal brake dust is a fine, dark grey powder spread evenly over the rim and the lower fork leg. It comes mostly from the pads and simply shows that the brakes are doing their job. Other signs deserve attention. Dust with a metallic glitter, or bright scratches on the disc, can mean a pad has worn through to its backing plate and metal is now rubbing on metal. Much more dust on one side of the wheel than the other suggests a caliper that drags or a disc that runs out of true. Oily, smeared dust points to fork oil or chain lube on the brakes.
Acting on those signs early saves money. A caliper that drags usually needs its pistons cleaned and its slider pins freed, and the disc on that side should be checked for heat tint and wear. A pad worn to its backing plate will have cut into the disc; if the grooves are deep, or the thickness is near the minimum printed on the disc, both discs of the SuperSport 950 S should be renewed together with new pads. Contamination is the one case where a thorough clean can be enough for the disc, as long as the pads, which soak up oil, are replaced.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the list, the DKS053 covers the SuperSport 950 S from 2021 to 2024, and the thinner DK053 is offered for the same years. Measure one of your original discs to find out which matches, and use the same type on both sides. Each disc is sold on its own; the bike needs two. Accossato also lists the EDF099 brake lever for the SuperSport 950 S.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE for the DKS053 on record and no type approval. We offer it for circuit riding and competition.
Scope of Delivery
