DescriptionThe whole story▼
A used Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special is an appealing buy, and its front discs tell you a good deal about how it has been ridden. If they need replacing, Accossato lists the DKS053 for the Scrambler 1100 Special of 2018 to 2021: a floating front disc on a black carrier with a 5.5 mm ring, fixed through five 8.5 mm holes on a 90 mm hole circle, and in Accossato's words interchangeable with the original equipment discs.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special, 2018 to 2021
- 320 mm outer diameter, 72 mm inner diameter
- 5.5 mm friction ring
- Five fixing holes of 8.5 mm, 90 mm hole circle
- Black carrier
- Interchangeable with original equipment discs, per Accossato
- One disc; the Special needs two at the front
- No German ABE documented; track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato builds the DKS053 around a 320 mm ring, 5.5 mm thick, which floats on rivets attached to a black carrier. The carrier sits on a 72 mm centre and is bolted through five holes on a 90 mm circle. The floating joint lets the ring expand with heat independently of the carrier. Accossato describes its discs as the product of experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, of a careful selection of raw materials and of detailed studies of tolerances, and notes that their restrained weight helps with steering and control.
Looking at a Used Special
Discs age more slowly than tyres or chains, so their condition says something about the whole history of a used bike. Ask to see the Scrambler 1100 Special cold and in daylight, and look at the ring surface of both front discs. An even, matt grey finish is a good sign. Deep concentric grooves suggest pads that were ridden down to their backing plates, a heavy crust of rust points to long periods standing outside, and blue heat tint on a Scrambler hints at a rider who liked to brake very late and very hard.
Then feel the edge. A pronounced step at the outer rim of the ring means a lot of wear. On the test ride, slow down gently from a moderate speed and feel for a pulse at the lever. If you find one, or the discs are clearly worn, factor the cost of two new discs and pads into your offer. Once the bike is yours, replace the discs together, bed them in and write down the odometer reading, so you know exactly where your own maintenance record begins.
Fitment and Compatibility
According to Accossato, the DKS053 fits the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special from 2018 to 2021. It is sold per disc, and the Special has twin front discs, so two are needed for a full change. The DK008 fixed disc is Accossato's listing for the rear of the Scrambler 1100 Special.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been documented for the DKS053, and there is no type approval on file. It is offered for circuit use.
