DescriptionThe whole story▼
A track day on a Ducati Monster 937 SP asks more of the front brakes in twenty minutes than a week of road riding. Each lap brings several hard stops from high speed, one after another, with little time to cool in between, and it is the front discs that turn all that speed into heat. How the rider handles the pauses decides how the brake feels by the afternoon. For the Monster 937 SP of 2023 and 2024, Accossato lists the DKS053, a floating front disc with a black carrier.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Ducati Monster 937 SP, 2023 to 2024
- 320 mm ring, 5.5 mm thick, 72 mm inner diameter
- Fixing holes: five of 8.5 mm on a 90 mm circle
- Carrier in black
- Accossato: interchangeable with the original equipment disc
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- Supplied as one disc; the SP needs two for its front wheel
Construction and Material Quality
The DKS053 is built in two parts: an outer ring 320 mm across and 5.5 mm thick, and a black carrier that centres on 72 mm and bolts to the wheel through five 8.5 mm holes on a 90 mm circle. Rivets hold ring and carrier together with a controlled amount of play, and that play is what lets the ring expand when it gets hot on a circuit. Accossato credits its background in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 for the design and says the low weight of its discs benefits the steering.
Heat, Then Rest
Much of what spoils brakes on a track day happens between sessions. After the chequered flag, ride a full lap without hard stops so that air can flow over the discs. In the pit lane and the paddock, avoid holding the Monster 937 SP on the front brake: a disc that is still very hot and clamped in one place can pick up a patch of pad material, and that patch will be felt as a pulse in the lever in the next session. Leave the bike in gear or put it on a stand instead.
Between sessions, a quick look at the front discs tells you a lot. An even grey colour across the friction band is what you want to see. Rainbow or blue tints indicate very high temperatures, and fine cracks at the edge mean a disc has reached the end of its life, whatever its thickness. At the end of the day, measure both discs against the minimum printed on them. Accossato recommends replacing discs roughly every thirty to forty thousand kilometres, and on a bike that visits circuits the limit often arrives well before that.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DKS053 for the Monster 937 SP from 2023 to 2024, and the fixed DK008 for the rear of the 2023 SP. Two DKS053 are needed for the front wheel of the Monster 937 SP. Tighten the disc bolts to Ducati's specification, pair the new discs with new pads and bed them in on the road before the first fast session.
Road Approval
No German ABE or type approval has been documented for the DKS053; track days and racing are its intended use.
Scope of Delivery
One DKS053 with black carrier. Order two to cover both sides of the wheel.
