DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Aprilia RSV4 1100 is a superbike that its owners ride on fast roads as often as on circuits, and its front brakes are central to both. When the front discs are due, the new ones need a little patience before they give their full bite. For the RSV4 1100 of 2021 to 2023, Accossato's list includes the DKS032, an Elite disc of floating design with a black carrier, the Accossato logo on its rivets and a 5.5 mm friction ring.
Key Features
- Accossato DKS032 floating front disc for the Aprilia RSV4 1100, 2021 to 2023
- Elite line, Accossato logo on the rivets
- 330 mm diameter, 64 mm centre bore
- Friction ring 5.5 mm thick
- Black carrier
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- Two discs on the front wheel; the price is for one
- No German ABE on record, for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Riveted to a black carrier, the friction ring of the DKS032 measures 330 mm across and 5.5 mm through, and the carrier's centre opening is 64 mm. This split construction is what makes the disc floating: the ring is located by the rivets rather than clamped solid, which leaves it room to move as it heats. Elite discs carry the Accossato logo on the rivet heads. According to Accossato, a careful choice of raw materials and a precisely calculated gap between ring and carrier are what make its discs so effective, knowledge the company attributes to racing.
Bedding In before the First Hard Stop
A new disc and new pads do not reach full grip straight out of the box. Their surfaces have to wear into each other, and the pads need to lay down an even film of their material on the ring. That process is called bedding in, and it is worth doing properly on an RSV4 1100. Start with clean parts: wipe the disc with brake cleaner to remove any residue and keep your fingers off the friction surface. Then find a quiet road and make a series of moderate stops from medium speed, releasing before the bike comes to a halt, with a short stretch in between to let the heat spread. Increase the pressure gradually over a dozen or so stops. Avoid emergency stops, and do not sit at a standstill with the lever pulled while the disc is hot, because that can print pad material onto one spot. Afterwards the lever should feel firm and consistent, and the brakes are ready for harder use.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato has the RSV4 1100 on its list from 2021 to 2023, and the DKS032 replaces either of the two front discs. Order two if both sides need renewing, since each order covers one disc. Before fitting, measure the old disc for diameter and thickness and check the centre bore; if anything differs, do not force it. Tighten the fixings to the torque Aprilia specifies for the RSV4 1100.
Road Approval
The DKS032 comes without a documented German ABE or type approval and is offered for racetrack use.
