DescriptionThe whole story▼
Cross-country courses are full of off-camber turns, where the ground slopes away from the corner and the bike wants to slide downhill. On a Yamaha YZ125X much of the control in those places comes from the right foot: a light, steady touch on the rear brake keeps the bike settled while the engine stays on the pipe. Accossato lists the DK168 for the YZ125X from 2021 to 2023, a fixed rear disc in steel, 245 mm across and 4 mm thick.
Key Features
- Fixed rear brake disc for the Yamaha YZ125X, 2021 to 2023
- Steel-made, one piece, from Accossato's off-road range
- 245 mm outside diameter, 115.2 mm inside diameter
- 4 mm thick
- Six 6.2 mm holes on a 133 mm circle
- Accossato: interchangeable with the original rear disc
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- No German ABE; for cross-country and competition
Construction and Material Quality
The DK168 has no separate carrier. The whole disc, from the braking surface to the 115.2 mm centre and the six 6.2 mm holes on a 133 mm circle, is one piece of steel, 4 mm thick and 245 mm across. Accossato calls it interchangeable with the original rear disc. For the know-how behind its discs, the company points to road racing and names Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3.
Off-Camber Turns
An off-camber turn punishes a grab at the front brake. Squeeze it hard while the bike leans on ground that falls away, and the front tyre tucks. The rear brake is the better tool here. Applied gently before and into the turn, it slows the YZ125X, keeps the chassis from pitching and holds the rear wheel in line, as long as it does not lock. A locked rear wheel on an off-camber slides straight downhill.
Riding like that keeps the rear disc busy in a way a motocross track does not. Over a long cross-country race the rear brake is used lightly but almost constantly, and heat builds. Signs of too much are a pedal that goes soft, a hot smell at the finish, or bluish patches on the disc. After each race, clean the rear brake, check that no mud is packed between disc and caliper, and measure the disc against the printed minimum whenever the pads come out. Accossato's reminder that a worn disc can break under extreme stress applies to rear discs just as much as to front ones.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK168 for the YZ125X from 2021 to 2023 as a replacement for the original rear disc. At the front, the same years are covered by the fixed DK268 and the larger, floating DK269. The rear of the YZ125X carries a single disc, so one DK168 is enough. When fitting, check the rear wheel bearings and the sprocket bolts, and give the new pads a few gentle stops to bed in.
Road Approval
The DK168 has no German ABE and no documented type approval. It is intended for cross-country racing and other off-road competition.
Scope of Delivery
